Please help - is the message on the n-Vi display which says "Power out - going to standby" the fault referred to in other posts? Or is this okay? When this happens the n-Vi will not respond to the remote control and the only thing that will restore it, is to switch off the box at the back!

have you tried pressing the dvd button?

Yes. Once that message shows, nothing works on the remote.

And I should also have said, none of the buttons on the front display respond either. It just seems to freeze, basically. So is this the big fault referred to in previous posts?

Right now you have to switch on again at the rear, there will be a fix for this shortly, so if this happens again keep in touch.

I've seen this a few times and, as advised, a hard boot is required. This is, for me at least, seperate from the power supply "auto crash" probs!
Paul S. Is this issue likely to be a firmware upgrade to resolve? I ask as I'm awaiting my replacement box which, I'm told, should address most of my list of faults/problems. It's a lot easier going forward for me if other issues can be addressed by firmware rather than unplugging and schlepping all the way to my nearest dealer for a swap out. Thanks, Duncan |

Right, thank you. Well, yesterday the display said something like "System fault. Please switch off at rear" so at least we knew there was a problem! It came back up after a few mins. |

This is what mine displayed a couple of weeks ago, I turned it off and it's now impersonating a doornail |

It seems to me that there is a business opportunity here.
I have a digital camera – that makes a CDP555 seem cheap BTW – and have become a unwitting BETA tester. This, in part, is because the digital capture component is not made by the same manufacturer as the camera component. Communication between camera and digital back is essential for any of the functionality to be stable (much like the nVi requirement to interact with an infinite array of “TV’s”). Because both these photographic companies are quite small neither have the computer testing facilities of say, Canon. No doubt testing is done but presumably not on a large enough scale. Therefore the quickest and easiest method for them is to make the customer the tester. I.E. Hundreds of tests per day with regular feed back – and the manufacturers are being paid rather than paying for the test. Obviously the downside is customer dissatisfaction. (Manufacturers have always been in a rush to get to market. Rumours on the internet put further pressure on producers to come up with the goods more quickly too.) The business opportunity...that would be what all these small businesses need. Access to expensive and comprehensive electronic test facilities. So rather than BETA testing the unit in the field maybe ACME TESTING could rent such facility to small independents such as Naim to tidy away these troubles before release. I am sure that Naim will solve the problem – it has taken the Camera mob a year and it is still not infallible, just much better – but you probably feel you deserve some sort of compensation for your inconvenience. I know I do. The perils of early adoption................ Pip, pip. PS JohnS Can't believe you fell for the old "switch off, it'll be fine when you switch it back on" ploy. Next you'll be putting it in the garage overnight to see if it has repaired itself. |
