not only do they charge an extra tenner for the hd box BUT if you want to move the old box to another room then thats (you guessed it) another tenner.

Scotty, not only that, but if you want to use the recording features of the SkyHD box, guess what? yet another tenner! And all of this on top of the £300 for the box itself.

I would imagine we are paying the highest subscription TV charges in the world.

Dear All,

Like many i waited with baited breath to see what sky HD would be like.

I have been admiring the Astra HD broadcasts on the top Pioneer Plasma for a few months now.

So went in this weekend to watch the Sky HD box on the Pioneer plasma.

Sorry but compared to my BARCO CRT front projector at 6ft 6in screen the plasma with HD is not on a par.

If i got a scaler for my Barco then i could have 2000 lines .

So i am not sure what to do with regards HD and plasma.

I will keep my old Barco for now as it is way ahead of Plasma and LCD and DLP.

I imagine that i will eventually end up with a DLP front projection on to my current screen.

The new generation of DLP at about £1500-£2500 are very good indeed.

Certainly much better than plasma and LCD.

I will still invest in DVD's instead of lining Mr Murdochs coffers. Yep i do not have SKY just freeview.

So am on hold for now.

regards David

There are a number of people on another forum, that are saying they are disappointed with the quality, considering all the hype.

The Motive 2s have also proved to be tremendous value for money. I took them to a bake-off the other day and the ran the host's Wilson Benesch Arcs very close indeed, and they are three times the price!

Jon - I am looking for a compact good looking pair of speakers to match lower end Naim but with a view to moving up to CDX2/282/200 in the next 12 months - you seem to be pleased with the Motive 2s. Do you find them better than the Spendors?

Thanks
Willie

Hi Willie,

Yes, absolutely - I would not have chopped my Spendors in for them, otherwise Smile

The main advantages they have over my old S5e's are, to my ears, much tighter bass, a better sense of grip and timing, and a fuller midrange. Plus, the Neats do something I had hoped the Spendors could do but couldn't quite manage - they sound good at low volumes, which given that I live in a small, terraced house, is a necessity.

Don't get me wrong the Spendors are excellent speakers - there are some very satisfied S5e users on this forum, it's just ultimately they didn't quite do it for me. BTW I'm using a 200 like you and it drives the Neats admirably.

Get a pair for a home audition and see what you think - I'd be surprised if you weren't impressed!

Cheers,

Jon

Hi Jon - thanks for your helpful response - I will certainly give the Motive 2s a listen. I don't have neighbour problems but wife and daughter don't like loud music late at night (often the best time to play music when I'm most relaxed and mellow) so a speaker that plays well at low volume will be an asset

I bought my Hutter from Longtone, but I am not sure if they stock it any more. Different lengths of supporting (aluminium) rods can be specified, but they are not adjustable.

My HD Cable services costs $10 / month. You don't have to buy the box they just give it to you on loan as part of the services. The basic digital cable subscription is $50 / month.

These people are evil and they couldn't care less about their customers. I ordered an HD box MONTHS ago. After cancelling the first install date, they then cancelled the second one because I already had a dish installed (their dish) and they wouldn't warranty it if I was "just plugging it in!!" Link to my blog for the whole nightmare. Bottom line - their "early registration" was nothing but a cash grab. Don't waste your time calling their "customer service" people either. They don't care.

Well I finally got my HD box in yesterday.

First impressions are WOW!! Whilst waiting for the Sky centre to upgrade my viewing card I was still able to view the BBC HD preview channel. The trailers for Planet Earth look absolutely stunning. After a couple of years of watching soccer on Sky and not being impressed, when the World Cup game England v Paraguay came on it was again WOW!! The clarity and sharpness of the picture again is amazing.

BTW I am running the box into a JVC 37" LCD and piping the front left and right channels into a 202, post processing.

OK had my Sky HD box in for a couple of weeks.

Suddenly on Thursday it kept going to a blue screen after 2 minutes up to 10 minutes. Called Sky. The representative went through a few things with me after apologising that he was new and had only 2 hours training. Eventually declared "it must be the box". Sky engineer scheduled for a visit this afternoon. (Sunday!!!).

And you thought you had problems with the n-Vi???

How frustrating - hope you get it in time for the match!

Mine's generally behaving itself, although it did freeze completely during the week - had to pull the plug. Also the clock started running slow, but corrected itself when the plug was pulled.

Gary

BTW, 2 hours training hey! I'm currently having problems with my Tesco's broadband and I reckon somebody with 2 hours training would be deemed an expert Big Grin

Well we asked for a time after 2 pm last Sunday......we got home at 1.30pm and there was a message on the answer phone left at 12.30 saying they couldn't wait anymore. The next available date was this Sunday.

Thanks for the comments.

By the way there was an article in the Sunday Herald today....................
