I've got a feeling that this is going to be one of those "Doh!" questions but .......

When connecting a Sky HD box to my AV2 which type of Toslink cable should I use.

I see there are Optical Digital versions and just Optical versions .......

And can anyone recommend a make?

Thanks

P

Any optical cable with TosLink connectors should work. I've just ordered a 7 meter long cable from Blue Jeans Cables which should turn up in the next week, I'll post what I think of it's build quality when it turns up.

No, I guess it's just whatever they fancy putting on the packaging. I don't think there has ever been an analogue optical interconnect standard for domestic use (or any audio use?)

The quality of the materials and the polish on the ends is important. The fit will also affect the performance.

So, all in all, they are all equal just some are more equal than others.

This is the best answer, the fiber in most fiber optical cables is made of plastic and doesn't have the same quality of transmission that true "fiber optic".

Here is a good discussion on the subject. Within the thread are some more scientific links to the question, which seem to conclude with Coax.

The Chord Optichord is my personal favourate, for an optical connection, but good Co-Axes do sound better.
