I guess the title says it all...! From AnandTech.com:
"Pioneer showed off an impressive prototype 9mm thick 50" plasma at their booth at this year's CES. We've seen a lot of thin LCD and OLED displays on the show floor, but this plasma is very impressive. Since it's a prototype, there's not many details on the set other than it's 1080P. And apparently the guys from the Sony booth weren't too happy when they saw this set..."
Well, I don't know their plans for the future, but plasma screens don't sell well, we all know that. However, I'm confident that shutting down their plasma manufactures would be part of a move to a new and better technology. I have no doubt that Pioneer will keep on delivering the best screens around
I thought it was Fujitsu who were shutting down their plasma production, but I might be wrong. A friend bought a 42" Kuro just before Christmas which I saw the other evening and it is a very impressive bit of kit.

It is Fujitsu that is closing down Plasma production. Pioneer just goes from strength to strength. They showed a new ultra black plasma at CES. They've found some way to make the background of their screens go absolutely black when the scene calls for it. In essence an infinite contrast ratio. Can't wait to see it.
