hi all,

Thinking of 'upgrading' my Arcam pre/power combo to the above.

What i would like to know is, would the above give me the same amount of, say, 'grunt' as the arcam?

Your views appreciated!

Hi niceguy,

I'm new here myself but i have just upgraded from Denon AVC A1SR.

Not sure 'grunt' is the best used term when it comes to Naim Audio.

I think to say that Niam AV/HI FI equipment definatley has 'Va Va Voom' or a 'finesse' about it gives you a clearer picture!

I havent looked back for a second since i got the setup you have mentioned!!!

I suggest get a demo, or else im sure lots on here will also completely recommend Naim!

Oh, and YES NAIM KICKS A$$!! Smile

Hi Twan,

Thanks for your views.

However, after having a good long chat with my dealer my heart is really with 2 channel, so i am going to start at the beginning again ie 202/200 plus possibly fc2x for the 5x and 202.

Then that gives me the option of going further down the line with upgrades etc.

Trouble is i got to sell my other gear before i can get the Naim!!!

Oh well.

Nice Guy
I have both my tv and my dvd player plugged into my 282/Hicap/200/Audiovector M1Signatures. The sound quality is tremendous and to be honest better than the Yamaha 5.1 system I left behind in my prior home.
I don't miss surround at all.

Hi Chris,

Interesting to know that you are pleased with your current setup.

However, i will be moving 'on' shall we say, from an Arcam AV pre/Power combo, which to be honest, is fantastic when used in direct mode, but i dont really watch that many dvd's now as ive caught up with all the films i missed!

Im planning on keeping my DVD5 and purchase the 202/200 with maybe a fc2x and run them through my Dynaudio Focus 220's.

Heres to selling the Arcams!!

I purchased a 200 and 202 about a year or so ago and love them and I certainly don't think you can go wrong with them.

If you want to keep your surround sound setup as well then it should be fairly easy. Take the pre outs from the arcam for the fronts and plug them into the av input on the 202. You can set the av input on the 202 to have a set volume level (so the volume on the 202 doesn't work for av input) which is what I do. Hopefully over the next few years I can afford to get an AV2 and more naim power amps for the surrounds.

Thsnks for that info Two-Sheds.

I was wandering if i could do that but to be honest, i cant afford to keep it all so basically im starting again. Then eventually, i shall add more amps and av2 to do the surrounds.

As Chris says above, my heart is in 2 channel and the surround set up would be great but if i can get a decent sound from 2 channel for mvies then i wont rush into it. Ill have to pay everything else off first!!!

Cheers
Jason
