hi allen,
my friend purchased a new nvi and had power supply problems right from the start. the dealer brought round the shop demo one and that did the same (shutting down)
we also noted that the machine is very slow.
but just remain patient im sure naim will rectify these problems soon and after all you will have a much better and reliable new generation nvi.
regards, scotty

The 'nv-i in stock' thread gives no clues to the current testing last time I read it.
Scotty (and Naim)
I fully appreciate Naims methodology about getting things absolutely right before shipping items. It's a major factor why Naim have such loyal devotees, myself included.

Some feedback is all I'm asking for. My AV2/175 is currently being marketed, yes my choice with a risk of being without an av setup if the Nv-i doesn't re-appear soon. The last thing reported here was that the Nv-i would be extensively soak tested. So what is meant by extensive, to me a soak test may mean 24-48 hours, extensive may be a week or so. I hope this isn't going to turn into months (kind of smacks of whatever has happened with the scaler card). If the soak tests have thrown a problem with supplier or manufacturer of the power supplies resulting in a drawn out affair, it would be nice for us to be kept informed, not necessarily with all the (commercial) details, just a straight forward account on the effect to re-distribution of this unit.

End of rant.

Regards

Allen

hi allen,
my advice to you would be keep your av2/175 through your nbls as fronts and just add a dvd5.
this set up would outperform an nvi in my opinion.

Scotty

I've had my n-Vi for around 2 months, issues with power supply. Shutting down half way through a DVD - but it's sparodic. Also slow but the the main problem is no output from the rear 2 speaker channels. Waiting for a replacement from Naim

Hi Scotty

The Nv-i is on order and has been for one month now, the AV2/175 are currently advertised, and one Fraim shelf will be released for amplifier upgrade in the near future.

The AV2/175/DVD5 would be a superb set up with a lot more inherent options, but this takes up three Fraim shelves. The Nv-i struck me as a perfect balance to av at home within the main naim audio set-up in one listening room.

I auditioned the Nv-i on my recent visit to Grahams Hi-Fi and I was stunned by the visual quality and certainly it did not appear that I would be losing out too much audio wise either. It was so good I placed my order there and then. This was just when the PS problems cropped up. It would be just nice to know that the Nv-i's will be rolling out sooner rather than later.

Maybe I am getting a little impatient and I am sure Naim are doing everything to get these units back out there. Maybe the problems are more serious (and duff power supplies are pretty fundamentally serious) than originally imagined.

Regards

Allen

We are shipping n-vi units, we are sorry for the delays. We have a very large back order situation worldwide which we are slowly working our way through. We had a small percentage of units with psu issues which were causing some very curious faults, sometimes quite different in each case which has had led to much scratching of heads in Salisbury. We began shipping again about 3 weeks ago but on a small scale so that we could track any issues, we are now almost back up to the numbers per day to make a serious impression on the back order situation. Sorry for the delay. Please stay in touch with your retailer who will be able to give you the latest info on delivery to him/her.

Thanks for the feedback, it's very much appreciated. You certainly have a winner in the Nv-i. Now how about the video scaler / switcher, and a HDD media server, and ...... Winker

Margan
I'm glad to hear that your unit seems to be behaving itself. It seems all this is about teething problems and you must have been one of the earliest adopters.

The good news is that I should have my Nv-i by the end of this week, cant wait !! Cool

Regards

Allen
