As a newbie to AV stuff, I've finally taken the plunge with an nVi. Initially I will use it to feed my standard 2 channel system, as I don't have room for more speakers.
Now, my audio rack is on the side of the room, with the speakers/display on the end with about 3 metres between them. Where's the best place to put the nVi? On the same Fraim as the hi-fi (looks nice) with a short interconnect to the pre, and a long DV cable to the display. Or under the display, with a long (custom) interconnect back to the pre? If the former, is it relatively easy to find long DV cables? Thanks for any suggestions Cheers John |

I'd be tempted to put the n-Vi close to the display so you can use a short, high quality DVI cable and then add a longer Chord lead for the front outputs to the main system.

Thanks James. I take it the thinking is that there's more likely to be degradation in the video rather than the audio signal?

Nero,
I'd go with the opposite. Long DVI cable and short analogue interconnect. I often use an n-Vi with a long (6m) HDMI lead with an HDMI/DVI adaptor. It works well. Regards, Frank. All opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinion of any organisations I work for, except where this is stated explicitly. |

I was thinking on cost - a 6m video cable being quite pricey. Whichever way you do it i wouldnt get too hung up on degredation either way and just enjoy the films James |

If cost is a factor put it under your screen.
If its not put it on the Fraim thats the best place for it.I used a good DVI to HDMI lead on mine no adaptor, less connections the better. Munch |

Mine sits with the 2-channel kit, and I use a 4m Chord cable feeding the screen (I use component, but if I used HDMI/DVI I'd do it the same way).
Naim do a "padded" lead as an option for hooking an n-Vi to a pre (resistors in the source end, two green bands on the lead). I use this as my screen doesn't use an IEC connection, but figure8... which isn't earthed... this prevents earthing issues when powering up/down with the screen on. Incidentally, also discovered that a Hi-Line (on loan from my dealer for a while) also solves the earthing issue by way of its' construction...... seems a little over the top to Hiline an n-Vi to a pre... but made for the best sounding DAB radio I've ever encountered.... Must save up £525!!!!! |

Thanks for all the input - that's been very useful. Of course, I've now found out that the DV input to my Pioneer media receiver is HDMI, so I think I'll go for the DVi-HDMI converter cable option, and site the nVi on the rack. I guess it's a standard interconnect to the unity gain input of the 552.
Should be fun! Thanks John |
