Do you think Naim ever issue the scaler for the DVD5 or will it go the way of the Linn Exotik DA?

Or, do you think Naim will simply issue a DVD5+ (or DVD5x or maybe DVD5i) with a 1080p scaler built in?

I am extremely tempted by the Arcam DV137 or 139. I wonder if I should wait for Naim to issue the scaler or take the plunge.

The complete lack of information either way suggests Naim have no plans to issue a DVD5 scalar before there is a new product, a DVD55 or whatever.

It does Naim no credit.

I too am about to plump for DV139 and am even thinking of moving away from Naim altogether (after 30 years) to get the right sort of integration (and control) that you need for DVD & AV Processor & Video.

My dvd is my only digital music+av source so I need a good and versatile machine. My listening is 95% vinyl 5% cd so I don't need a dedicated CD player.

I heard the DVD5 and I thought it is exceptional but too pricey for what it is nowadays. I saw the Arcam's 137 picture (and have an Arcam DV78) and unless Naim issues a 1080 DVD5++ in the next couple of months I'll go with the Arcam.

I have no intentions to move away from Naim. Couldn't be happier otherwise.

Control? With all due respect, very few custom integrators would agree with you–the weakest link for both manufacturer's offerings (as oft repeated to me by most installers) is the supplied remote control, but Naim's RS-232 support and documentation is far more thorough than Arcam's.

If, on the other hand, you are referring to video switching, and separately, scaling, then I'd cautiously note that provisions for component video or HDMI on a currently-shipping AV receiver will likely not be as robust over the medium- to long-term, given the tectonic shifts in specification that are taking place on the video side, especially with regard to de-interlacing / scaling technology at 1080p and beyond*.

* - 2K and 4K projectors (NEC, JVC, Sony) are already being installed in super-high-end domestic theaters, but require some sort of scaling engine to feed the inputs–even for Blu-ray or HD-DVD sources.
