Hi Guys,

Just wondering, besides adding the AV2 and NAP175 to my existing naim stereo system (282/scap2/250.2), is there another option to get 5.1 channels?
Is it true that I can also achieve this by just adding the n-vi to my stereo set up. It would be great if I can do this as this will save me money on having to splash on a DVD player.
Which is better though?..
Thanks for all your help in advance.

Regards.

Yes you can add the n/vi or run it as a stand alone all in one box.

The better performance is had through the AV2/175 provided you have a good DVD player - and it needs to be very good (i.e. not cheap) in order to provide pictures as good as an n-VI! That said, apart from better sonic performance, the AV2 is also more flexible. For example, it can give you Dolby Prologic from stereo analogue sources such as a TV, or it can take multi-channel input should you want multi-channel music from DVD-A/SACD or, indeed, the lossless multi-channel input from a BluRay/HD-DVD machine. The AV2 also allows you to go to 7.1 if that's a desired function. That said, the n-VI can be had with the FM/DAB tuner module which would mean a completely separate tuner in the case of the AV2...

Looks as though the AV2/175 combo will be the more favourable option given its flexibility.
I'm using the Pioneer DV79AVi dvd player at the moment though I'm not sure how this compares with the picture quality of nVi. Regardless, I like the idea of keeping the video signal separate especially when there's a lot of developments nowadays on the format.
Thanks for the input guys.
