Looks like blu ray won over hd dvd -Warner choose not to support hd dvd any more, new Denon "Blu" machine is on the horizone ,so we have winner. I Hope soon we will have announcement from our favourite "Green" company about new product.

NEWS: 15 February 2008 8:57 GMT - "A movie news site is reporting that Toshiba is a matter of weeks away from conceding defeat of its HD DVD format in the next-gen high-def disc format war, giving in to Blu-ray's market dominance.
The Hollywood Reporter states: "Toshiba is widely expected to pull the plug on its HD DVD format sometime in the coming weeks, reliable industry sources say, after a rash of retail defections that followed Warner Home Video's announcement in early January that it would support only the rival Blu-ray Disc format after May".
"An announcement is coming soon", the site quotes one source close to the HD DVD camp. "It could be a matter of weeks."
Jodi Sally, VP of marketing for Toshiba America Consumer Products is quoted as saying: "Given the market developments in the past month, Toshiba will continue to study the market impact and the value proposition for consumers, particularly in light of our recent price reductions on all HD DVD players".
This news comes as two more American retailers voiced support for Blu-ray this week, and sales figures appear to steadily support the Blu-ray camp's claims that they are winning this thing. "
I'm all in favour of BluRay winning out. The format has a higher capacity, and hence more potential for very high quality video and audio formats without having a movie split over two disks!
Good money after bad? I don't see the point of increasing your disc collection when the Blu-ray discs are fast coming down in price as are the players. You could be buying discs on a supported format instead...

There's just been a story about this on Channel 4 News tonight. It was pointed out that one thing in particular that clinched it for Sony is their decision to include Blu-Ray playback with their PS3 which apparently has itself now outselling rival HD-DVD by almost 10:1.
But of course the real reason Blu-Ray is winning out is because it's easier to say than "HD-DVD" - well, that's my preferred reason anyway!

some films if you want them have to be purchased on hddvd , at this time

I like marketing speak eg "Toshiba will begin to reduce shipments of HD DVD players and recorders to retail channels, aiming for cessation of these businesses by the end of March 2008. "
really means - we have stopped production (actually last month) we have sacked the workers and scrapped the plant and we are now in the process of dumping our remaining stock into the retail channel.
or we have now switched our manufacturing to produce Blue Ray devices (which only required a few small changes from our previous product line and we had already reverse engineered the technology just in case)
