I woke up the DVD5 and it refused to display an image on BNCs RGBHV or YUV signal. It displays something distorded like a large red line on black background but that's all.
I also have no sound on cinch or Din output.
I switched the unit off, reseted it, nothing changed but it works on SCART for video (may be sound) and coaxial output for sound. Confused

I can't believe that happens on a saturday.

Hi karyboue,

first be comforted. Such things normally happen at weekends or after a hard day fo work when you gave your children to their grandparents and you now want to enjoy a long good movie with your wife.

The way you discribe the bugs it seems to me that a chip is damaged. Remember that a dvd-player is more than half a computer.

I had a DVD5 after the n-vi crash first quarter this year. But even the DVD5 did something odd from the beginning. It started with making no difference between Scart-RGB and Scart-YUV on my old Tube-TV (the n-vi did). Powered up at the back first, it often refused to switch from stand-by into playing mode. Then it didn`t want
to read the sound-track on one DVD. At least (now on the Plasma) it one day put a real psychedelic picture via DVI to the screen. I phoned with the german sales and they told me that probably a chip was damaged caused by wrong transport handling.
Those damged chips often produces not all bugs at once. First it works, then more and more weird things happen until the big crash.
So the DVD had to go back to England for a complete exchange.

Hope I helped you a little bit.

... my dealer sent my AV2 to england on friday Roll Eyes

My first DVD5 died in 2-3 days but this one worked ok for more than a year despite some bug troubles that everyone experienced.

Hi again,

You're so right.
On a very different level, it just reminded me that I wanted to test (buy ?) the new Sony 40x2000 with the DVD5 as soon as it was out and that I had planned vacations on the first week of september for some movie addiction nights. 3 or 4 movies in row completely "zombieyesed" and lost (season 2 zone 1 out the 5th of september)

I think that I will forget about the LCD TV and I will go on with my movie-week ... but on scart only (by the way, on scart that's unbelievable how much better it is than my Sony DVD recorder even with the discs recorded from the Sony Eek )

And may be the player wakes up one day, image and sound restored. If not, I'll visit my dealer.

karyboue:-

-Are you using YPbPr-HV mode or just YPbPr?
-does DVI output work?
-does SPDIF(optical/coax)work ok?

If you leave the unit of for an hour or so, does the unit work ok for a period of time, or is is permanently distorted/no sound.

If it is permanently distorted, then it looks like you may need to return your unit via your dealer for repair.

Hi AV,

I use RGBHV on 5 BNC.
I don't know if DVI works as I don't have any DVI TV.
Coaxial connection works ok and I tested optical that also works ok.

Analog sound and BNC vidéo never "woke up" since saturday evening and I tried a few times since Frown

In fact, now that I test, I find that the distorded red block appears only for a short period, just after each time I select the RGBHV input on my TV, it might be the TV set trying to sync ... after the screen fails to sync it remains black.
