Hi folks,
I have seen lots of discussion on this, but can't quite figure out what I should do. I have never done anything like this before and would beg your advise before proceeding. I have the above equipment and a good Yamaha AV amp which has pre-outs for all channels. I would like to continue to use the AV amp for cinema sound and my slimp3 music server, but would like to route the front (Naim Credo) speakers and my CD3 through the NAC 42 and the NAP 250. As far as I can see from previous posts: I need to connect the pre-out front left and right of the Yamaha to the Aux input of the NAC42 and then balance the system with the NAC42 volume set to nine o'clock. (The Yamaha has a mike for auto-balancing the system.) I would then control all the volume (barring the CD3) through the AV amp. Is this what you would recommend? I might add that the NAIM kit is pretty old but I can't afford to spend £500 odd on servicing it! Thanks in advance for your help. |

mwphoto,
Yes, that is exactly as I did when I had a NAC72 in my main system. After some expirimentation, the actual volume position did not seem to make any difference so I tuned in with the volume dial pointing to the top left corner. Whatever volume position you choose doesn't matter as long as it is easily settable when you go into AV mode. Enjoy Pete |

Warning, I originally set it up to 12 o'clock, but forgetting to change the volume dial when playing a CD afterwards got a bit too much

Many thanks, I tried to set up the system but it looks as though the NAC42 may be faulty (it is VERY old!) I have tested the NAP250 and it is working fine, so I have ordered a 2xRCA - 1xXLR cable to allow me to connect directly to my AV pre-amp out sockets. Obviously it won't be quite as good, but such is life.
