Star Trek - The Motion Picture (The Director's Edition) ... first time on DVD for us but I found the 5.1 sound somewhat disappointing (I recall the VHS tape of the original film had excellent surround sound).

You may remember this from the 1980’s… This really isn’t a thinking persons kind of detective serial with the OTT story line, cartoon characterisation, and not to mention some dodgy acting here, there and everywhere… But despite rather a lot of brutal violence ( all done in very bloodless good taste and no tomato ketchup ), this series does have an entertaining edge (set in 1963) with interesting scenery, swanky cars, Rock n’ Roll, R&B, Jazz, style and humour.
I recommend it for the music! : )

Hello Chris,
Yes, Dennis Farina is great, but he's no Inspector Morse ; )
I also have the Series 2, it's got some very good imaginative episodes on it, but the main story plot gets more daft as it goes on and it all ends up very appallingly cheap and silly with not so special effects… Personally, I blame that Ray Luca for running off with the set budget money!
Chris, do you like the Hill Street Blues?
...i've got the complete season 1 and 2 which imho is very special, unique and way ahead of it’s time with it’s filming technique : )
“Let’s be careful out there”!

I'm afraid it passed me by completely. I got into "Crime Story" when I lived in the US in the 80s and happened to notice the first ever episode in the listings. Was hooked from the first notes of "Runaway". I agree it was very cheesy but it was fun!
And Torello was no Morse for sure! But then his sidekicks were no Lewis either!
Funnily enough, my 26 year old son found the DVDs earlier this year and also got hooked! I think he watched both series virtually back to back while waiting for his various job applications to be processed. He started his first full time teaching post last week - not time for watching DVDs now!

HSB,great the beer and the TV series. It certainly was ahead of it's time style wise, it had a kind of "ring of truth" about it, never missed it. Mike Post's theme hooked us straight away. Veronica Hamel was very kind to the eyes too. Good cast great stories. NYPD Blue followed in similar vein.

Great movie. Intense, without giving you a cardiac arrythmia. Smart and nicely thought out. Excellent excellent acting by Whashington and Crowe. Makes you think about how gangsters are real people with lives and families and a set of priorities. Exploits corruption among the the law enforcement agencies and drug addiction among the american youth of the 70s in a very dramatic way.
At the end of the day this is a magnificent movie and highly recommended!
