Well I was pleasantly surprised, my family all really enjoyed this. Great vocal cast and some genuinely funny moments - including some very musical slugs. In my view this one beats Cars into a porcelain bowl. One for my DVD collection. |

INLAND EMPIRE. OMG, nobody puts a nightmare up on the screen like David Lynch. This one makes Mulholland Drive seem mainstream.

Dirty Dancing
OK, problem of having a 16 year old daughter! That said I am surprised to describe this as quite a sweet film. The whole thing has a feel of a slowly fading present, into which some of the current world forces it's presence; the 'current world' being late 1950s/early 1960s USA. The use of 'sweet' to describe a film that shows a divided society, unwanted pregnancy and back street abortion may seem odd, but I think the common shared moral values goes some way to justifying this. Dirty? Certainly sexy - and not a bad film to use for sex education purposes for those of you with daughters! M |

The Hidden
Ordered this one a couple of weeks ago, had to get R1. I remember watching this in the mid/late 80s and really enjoying it, real B-movie Sci-Fi fayre with lots of action, a high body count AND music a la Terminator - what's not to like! The plot is not original, I remember reading it as a teenager in the early 70s: Alien moves from human body to human body entering by the mouth, in fact it has even been copied since in a episode of Angel; plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery. There are enough twists here to keep you engaged, although why an alien would find a human female attractive is beyond me! Violent fun, and is in my collection! M |

Memoirs of a Geisha
I had been put off this film when it came out originally, no idea why. Lovely film, really well shot, and quite gripping drama I felt. Regards, Frank. All opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinion of any organisations I work for, except where this is stated explicitly. |

Sally (Mrs big h) and I have just watched Pan's Labyrinth. Most enjoyable. I thought the sub titles would be a pain but did not detract from the film.8.5/10

Chris i only ever saw two and was hooked. I think that was s,2 when he had to fly a bomb in a plane and his daughter thought he was dead. I didnot see any after that. Reason why,I would have had to see every bloody one after that and i knew it would go on for more than 24 bloody hours. |

It's not that bad! Subtract the ad breaks and its only about 20 hours! Just watched episodes 3 and 4 of season 6. Gripping as all the others. But got to hit the sack as I have an unfeasibly early start tomorrow! If ever we meet up I'll be pleased to lend you the subsequent series. |

Children Of Men
A real curates egg IMO. Good acting; Interesting Premise; Excellent Production values; Really weak story. It is an elongated chase movie. There is no attempt to explain the central issue, or why the event the drives the film occurs. What we have is a bleak dystopian not too distant future with Clive Owen playing an everyman hero, in what I think is his typical wooden style. There are a plethora of loose end in what I found was a really unsatisfying film. M |

A film based on a highly derivative book. The script simplifies the plot and the, already, two dimensional characters. ....but, the film is OKish as a teenage fantasy tale. Compared to Dungeons & Dragons this is Shakespeare! The main issue I found with the film is poor acting. The lead was occasionally weak, Jeremy Irons was really quiet good, the British old stagers are typically professional, the rest - including John Malkovitch - are dreadful. M |

@ Mr underhill - its brilliant. Any movie that starts with a rockin (and ruthless) car chase of the nature of The hidden and still manage a plot, is worthy of consideration. still love it after all these years. Whump. |

Hot Fuzz Simon Pegg and a lovely cameo cast. Bloody funny. Really bloody funny. I try not to have expectations; yet after Shawn of the Dead, I certainly had high hopes. Found it achingly funnny accompanied by a good pizza and a bottle of fine south australian shiraz. Thoroughly recommended film. The wine needs no recommendation, of course.
