"The Thin Red Line" A brave attempt at a cerebral war movie by Terence Mallick. Good battle scenes but somehow failed to make the most of the talent assembled I felt.

Before I went to Sweden for the Arken show, I watched this corker:

I'll Sleep when I'm Dead - Another gritty drama from Mike Hodges, very much reprising Get Carter but with a good dose of Croupier thrown in - indeed like Croupier the main draw is another excellent performance from Clive Owen, yet again confirming what a great Bond he could be... A fascinating relationship with ex girlfriend played by Charlotte Rampling (still mixing ice and fire so well and looking great), and a truly nasty character Boad, brilliantly played by Malcolm Mcdowell top off a memorable film that is still much in my mind.

Very strongly recommended.

Guy X
A Sound of Thunder

Guy X 'lingers and haunts, but never compels.' according to the BBC and they're spot on - except for the bit about having to watch it twice.

Ain't going to happen.

Which is also a line in the worst green screen moment since the train suicide in Hostel (really) but A Sound of Thunder has great sound, 'If you've a Naim system you'll ****ing love this movie' Jonathan Ross did not say.

Ray Bradbury's science fiction is turned into science fantasy and the result is such an abomination that despite the great sound God flooded Prague in 2002 to try to stop this movie. Then after Ben Kingsley had been paid there was no money left and the production company went bankrupt.

The remnants were bought cheap, hacked around a bit and rushed out the door. If you enjoyed all the budget holes in Nightwatch you'll laugh through to the end. To achieve this you don't so much have to suspend your disbelief as sit it facing the corner in an orange jumpsuit, handcuffs and ball gag.

Great sound but it is a Peter Hyams movie so don't say you weren't warned.

C

Sin City - not very good, often embarassing and, when I looked back on it, pointless.

I agree - I thought it was a terrible waste of time and money (I gave away the DVD to the person who recommended the film to me in the first place) - thankfully I bought it fairly cheap.
