I have a Sony DVP S7700 - at the time of purchase it was one of the better players around - however, this was 4 or so years ago. Before splashing out on a new DVD player, I would appreciate some input from the forum as to the improvement (and why) I can expect to see by moving to either a mid range DVD player (eg Arcam 79) or higher range (eg DVD5).

I play DVDs through a Mitsubishi HC900 projector onto a 2.5 metre wide screen connected through component cables

Thanks in advance

Jonathan

My advice is go and see and hear the DV79 and the DVD5, apart from greater compatibility with new formats, the newer models should have better audio quality and spectacular 3D pictures. Let your own eyes and ears decide. The DV79 is exceptional value for money and the HDMI digital video output is quite superb.

My money though is on the DVD5 - into an AV2 decoder I've yet to see / hear anything better. But then we would say that. (ps. we're both Naim and Arcam dealers!)
