I am going to replace my dead 32" Panasonic CRT with a Panasonic 42" plasma and I thought I would bring some spare speakers into play at the same time.

I have no intention of going into surround sound and only want a simple two channel system (Nait5/Mission 753Fs) to give a reasonable sound for movies etc. Where would I take the audio from - the sky box or the DVD player?

I am a complete novice at this so any help or direction will be appreciated.

hi, this is a bit of a thread hijack but still 2 channel av related!

just bought a nait5i and am very very happy with it. but would also like to use it for movies aswell and i am looking to pick up a sub. however im not sure if the tape out works as a pre out?

dont really want to be using high level inputs on the sub because....well......it doesnt have any lol.

You're stuffed old boy... sorry!

Tape loop out is fixed line level... not affected by the amp's volume control.

With an amp with no spare pre-out (or even a way of providing a pre-out as you could by the addition of a power supply to a 112x pre-amp for example), and a sub with no high level input, you're going to have to look at which item you want to keep least!

ok, so on that bombshell, floorstanders, i have monitor audio r90's at the moment and really like the sound. ive been looking at the focal speakers also dynaudio any good ones to look at at the £1000 mark? which can get me good bass for movies and still perform well in music?

If you want to make life as easy as possible, you plug everything into the screen and take the screen's output to the Nait. This means you'd only use one input and don't even have to remember which input to be on.

For ultimate quality, plug each source (including the screen if you wish to use Freeview or terrestrial occasionally) directly into the Nait and swap over source depending on what you're watching.

The Focals are a good match, as are the smaller Dynaudios up to the 52SE or 62 if you want a floorstander. The Dynaudios have a bigger bass presentation so may suit better for movies.

ok, been looking around a bit more and decided maybe not to spend soo much on speakers as i need to get a new av rack made up aswell and could do with nicer speaker cable.

ive had a bit more of a look around and seen rega r5's, quad 21l's and also seen b&w 684? and monitor audio silver flavours. im really stuck now?? should really narrow down the list before setting up an audition!! any help would be useful

on another seperate line, i could do with a DAC with multiple selectable inputs that really does perform for about £500? any more ideas. sorry for all the questions. ive been bitten by the naim bug...bad.

I can see the merits of both options. Whilst I would happily choose the second option, my wife would undoubtedly want me to go for the first one.
