The arrival of the latest TI DLP chip has allowed reasonable price projectors with 1080p scaling.

THis prompted me to get an INFOCUS IN76 which does an excellent job. The questions I am wrestling with right now are:
1) Currently I have a Denon 2900 DVD with component out, interlaced or progressive by choice. Where is it best to de-interlace. The DVD player or in the projector?
2) I am tempted to invest in the new Denon 3930 partly because it is quoted as having a classy 1080p upscaler in it. I wonder if that is likely to beat the upscaling offered in the IN76 which seems to have a pretty good upscaler already. Anyone have any experience on this.

I'd try feeding interlaced to the projector, then switching to progressive scan.
My bet is that the latter will look better as you're reducing the work done by the projector's scaler.... after all, the de-interlacing circuit in your player is pretty good.


However, you will NOT see 1080P.

Ultimately you need to try it and trust your own perception of the results.

Mike...thanks that is a good point. I must admit I was not aware that the IN76 was limited to 760P. I shall save my pennies now and just keep using the 2900.

As far as I can tell I get a better picture using the de-interlacer in the projector. Interestingly the color temperature of the resulting image is quite different from what I get when the 2900 does the de-interlacing.

The 720P scaling produces an excellent image anyway.
