Hmm, I wasn't aware of laser TV being so close to market, and I wasn't aware of the legal wrangles surrounding SED...

yeah yet more technology to not worry about give me CRT and a projector any day.

FullHD pictures are really rather nice I admit. CRT can't give you that. There are aspects of CRT which are still unbeatable of course, but the new flat panels are getting awfully close while providing the extra resolution that makes CRT look a bit sick. I've really begun to notice substandard CRT pics now.

It's still really good, but the latest stuff, particularly on HD, certainly has my trigger finger itching!

I have a Sony 32 inch wide screen tv. I've had it seven years now. Its 100 hertz. Thats it! It's not even digital although I do have an external Freeview box (also Sony). I think the picture is very good. I am waiting purposefully untill the digital switchover before buying a new tv.
My retailer advised me tv technology is changing constantly and isn't worth paying lots of money. If the tv works, why change it? He's right.
What I do know about diodes is that they have a shorter life-span, about 5 years, but the picture is much brighter hence the reason why. Because the picture is brighter it is 'better' than LCD. Personally, I would rather have a tv which lasts twice as long.
The diode principle can be applied to replace light bulbs in the home which I think would work better. I am considering this.

There are different interesting technologies on their way... but most since several years, and still nothing to buy from serial production!

The small Sony OLED TV shall obviously look very good - at least when it's new:

Up to the point where one of those new technologies has fully reached maturity, I am happy with my new LCD

Dear Joe,

I gave up gaving a televison in 2003, but there are moving pictures worth warching. I have about 50 DVDs with great films on them. Unfortunately my computer [with CRT Monitor] is not fast enough to play them in watchable fashion!

why bother yerself about summit thats not even relevant for a good few years yet!
CHILL BOYS you will be able to spend your cash soon enough. in the meantime just enjoy todays technology.
