I have recently sold my Naim CDX to switch to a Squeezebox/DAC setup. For my DVD player, I've been using a Pioneer Elite DV-C36. (Wife wanted the changer for music while entertaining at the time we bought it...before the days of ipod and now a music server)

Now that I have removed a dedicated CD player, I would like to upgrade the DVD player to provide audiophile quality CD playback when I'm not using the music server.

I have found several units on here and am not sure which way to go. My TV is 720p native and I would likely continue to use the component input.

The units I'm considering all have silver face-plates and include the Lexicon RT 10, RT 20, Cary DVD 7, Krell Showcase DVD, Denon 3910, the Oppo 970 and the Arcam FMJ units.

I would greatly appreciate your input and help with this decision and perhaps recommendations for units I haven't mentioned.

Thanks!

Seeing as you're posting in here, shouldn't the DVD5 be on your list?

If the DVD5 had a silver faceplate, it would be on my list.

Thanks for the input Neill. I didn't even realize the Meridian came in silver. It seems that the black units are all that I ever see.

Sounds like you need a small pot of silver paint & a DVD5....

Or perhaps a large pot of black paint for the rest of your electronics.......

I use an Arcam DV29 for both CD and DVD and am currently quite happy with it. Here is one for sale for what appears to be a great price. The advertisement is really well written and has a lot of good information...

I know we Naim types are supposed to have fallen out with a certain Scottish company and I shouldn't really say the L word but the Linn Uni-Disks really are rather good if a little steeply priced, and come in silver!

djftw

linn only make the unidisk sc and the unidisk 1.1 the 2.1 is no longer made.
so its £6,500 for 1.1 or £3,000 for a pre amp dvd player. both don't upscale to 1080p however the meridian now does

i would rule out the linn choice as i think both machines are heavily over priced

I have an Arcam FMJ DV139 that I bought because of the quality of the CD replay.
And it does the DVD upscale thing.

by any chance, have you had the opportunity to compare it to a CD36?

I know they used to. It fitted over the centre black section of the front fascia.
