I just recieved an email from the local dealer. They are charging as follows for the Av2 firmware upgrade.

Dealer handling charge: $75-
Naim Chicago handling charge: $65-
Two-way freight: to be determined: $??
New PIC chip if required (on early models lower than version AVP209): $75-

Does this not seem a little extreme for a fix that should have been done from day one? Are other US dealers charging this?

As far as NANA is concerned the firmware update itself is at no charge, but there is a $64 handling charge to cover unpacking, testing and repacking the unit, including double boxing to ensure safer return shipment in this country.

The choice you have is to take it to the dealer, or ship it directly to us. I understand you have a used unit that you did not buy from a dealer, so it wouldn't be unusual to expect a service charge from the dealer to handle it for you. Dealers make their own decisions about their service charges etc.

My dealer has suggested that the PIC chip and software reprogramming results in a demonstrable improvement in sound quality. Seems a bit hard to believe. (I thought it only addressed DVD5 coordination issues.) Any comments?

Also, how do you know which "version" your AV2 is, and whether you need the new chip?
