Hi , i'm new to the Forum so hello! Ive decided to start buying into Naim having listened to a great system in my local dealer here in Hong Kong. Ive currently got a Tag full set up with av32r and 5 channel amp and 192r and proac d15s on the front , artcoustic centre and rears.I want something more musical that still great with movies and just heard AV2 , Nap 300 ,145 and 200 and cdx2 and was blown away. Problem is ive only got enough for half the system now and wondered if i couldnt buy the cdx2 and the 300 now and integrate with the tag and then buy the rest later? does that make any sense or could i do better spending the money i can now differently ?
any advice greatly appreciated |

I used to have the Av32 a very early version. I never really took to it and changed for my Av2 some time back. I also tried the tag five channel amp but bought the Bryston instead. If it was me, I would buy the Av2 and Cdx2 first and use the tag amp for the time being, then change the amps. I would also suggest if your using the 192r you may, want to change this for the DVD5. I think you could hold of on that for a while though. Which part of your system do you feel would be improved the most amps or preamp. I really found when I changed from my tag to naim preamp a big difference in movie and music, it just sounded a lot better to my ears. Have you asked dealer to let you try various combos at home so you can make your own mind up a little better and which areas improve the most??? Neill |

hi neill - thanks for the reply.
unfortunately in HK they arent quite so accomodating to let u try equipment out at home. Ive started buying a lot of blue ray as i also have pioneer 50" 1080p plasma and ps3 and plan on buying nxt gen dvd as soon as there seems to be a leader so think dvd5 not the best buy for me. i"m not sure on the difference a pre amp would make as unable to demo at home. The dealer has suggested the 300 and the cdx2 but guess these are the most expensive pieces so not surprised ( this is hong kong after all!) |

Hi Gerald. Welcome!
Coincidentally enough, I've just replaced a full-house AV32R DP 7.1 processor with an AV2. Why? because the Tag developed a fault & I decided, seeing as how the rest of my stuff's Naim, to go for the AV2. I was also a bit nervous of continuing to run with an obsolete system which although it can be repaired is an expensive exercise! The AV2's a much less sophisticated beast but it sounds simply tons better; simple to set up, a joy to use and integrates wonderfully with my 552 preamp. I think if you go for the AV2 first you'll notice a considerable difference that'll set you up for the inevitable drift to the complete domination of Naim stuff in your system! |

At the risk of spending your budget before you ever get to the A/V part, are you getting a PSU to go with the CDX2? It's a great stand-alone player but is moved a huge leap forward with an XPS2 or, better still, a 555PS. |

Have you considered the N-Vi? 5 channels, good DVD and CD player. All in one box. You can add the 300 on top of it.

hi chris - plan on getting power supply at later date, as well know this is a rather expensive hobby! is there a much bigger improvement on the 555 over the xps2?
No plan to buy n-vi , rather keep it to separate components i think |

I listened to the XPS2 first but it was only when the 555PS became available and I heard it in my system that I reached for the credit card! The price delta of about £1500 was well worth it to me. I also have added a Hiline interconnect, which allows the CD player to give the music it's full weight and flow. |
