soon the dvd5 will be avalaible,is a dvd when a cd is playing in, sound as good as a cd player? it could be an one doing all, and replacing a cd player THANKS
As I understand it Naim have endeavoured to make the DVD5, when in CDP mode, sound at least as good as a CD5i. I think that's one of the reasons for the delay in its release.

i asked this,cause my dvd player need to be replaced, and i already have a cd5 without a cap,so i could trade my cd5 + money to get a dvd5 , but is it a good choice? i' m not sure ,i thing i will need a long listening session.
As just a DVD player the DVD5 is expensive when compared to the competitors, even though it is bound to be very good. When you think of it as a bloody good DVD player and it gives CD playback comparible to a CD5/CD5i then it starts to look good. Problem is many people who like Naim also tend to like to upgrade and the DVD5 on the audio (CD) side has no upgrade path like a CD5x has. If you think you are likely to want to upgrade your audio in the future a CD5x and 'another' make DVD may give you more flexible upgrade options and a simular price. If you think a DVD5 (with it's CD performance comparible to a CD5i) is all you may ever need then I'm sure a DVD5 will not disapoint at all and will be just the all in one ticket you may be after. Best thing to do is try and find a dealer with one and pop along with your favourite CD's and DVD's for an afternoon of listening, watching and coffee.
The new and cold DVD5 i've just received sounds as good as a well burnt CD5. I've compared them side by side. I have been impressed at what Naim have been able to obtain from a DVD player for CD replay.

It's easy to think that a DVD5 might not perform better than a CDX2 or whatever on audio. However, no CD player will also deliver stunning Video results........ No DVD player that I've ever heard performs as well as a Naim CD player.
I for one, will seriously consider the DVD5 when my current "cheap" DVD player dies, or even before it dies.........
Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

But does it mean the DVD5 is now available or have you received an available-soon-demo player ?
In HT, have you noticed if the DVD5 sounds better using its own decoders and plugged in the analogue DINs of the AV2 or with a coax cable using the AV2 internal decoders ?

It's still a proto. There are no DD nor DTS decoders in the DVD5, so for HT, you have no choices. On music CD, it works better with internal DACs than with the AV2, but i've tried it with a 252, so no surprise. It complies with the Naim's philosophy: internal DACs are a must for CD replay.

I have the DVD5 with an AV2 (through NAP 140 and Diamond 3s) as a bedroom system. It is really VERY good - in that it all works together, plays music and doesn't make you worry about its deficiencies - which are few.
