Hello Adam, I think RGBHV will only no with non-macrovision disks, so not many at all, component should be ok though. Make sure in the settings you have progressive turned off and all the video outputs turned on.

Select YPbPr or YPbPr HV (depending on your setup) in the progressive menu.
Macrovision/CSS enctrpyted discs will NOT be viewable from RGB/RGBHV outputs for legal reasons. (You will only see a picture when the setup menu is on screen)
You need to turn on interlaced outputs. Otherwise they are only viewable when the setup menu is on screen.

Thanks Simon, when I took the old pioneer off and pluged the Naim in I used the same component conection but the picture was a small of-centred letterbox. With the other settings it seems the panasonic can't keep hold of the signal without the help of the Naim OSD.

It's not that, it's due to the fact that when there are on screen menus all output are always on irrelevent of what you have selected to be off in the menu. Once you press play the outputs that are set to be off will be switched off at that point. I think it's a get out of jail free card in case you turn off the wrong output and can't get back in to fix it.

Can you check your plasma is not set to "pixel for pixel" mode, just to make sure....

I had very similar issues with my first dvd5 and its component output.
It turns out that if i had the dvd5 set with the 'display off' (for the unit for cd replay), it would switch off the outputs as well. This is designed into the 5 so that when you play a cd you could switch off all the video circuitry for optimum audio playback.
However, what it was doing was turning it off when i was trying to watch a dvd as well (with display off).
Didnt have this issue with the replacement unit.

Also it would be worth checking to see if there is an "auto" mode on the screen, this should pick up the correct format from the DVD5 and display accordingly.
