Anybody heard of possible 'wireless' displays for neat and tidy wall mounting ...or...am I off my trolley even hoping for it.

Where is wireless HDMI?

There are enough compatibility problems with wired HDMI. As soon as you don't have a direct connection, but a switch or AV amp in between, it gets tricky. I tried 2 different switches which both had their problems with some devices... Mostly because of the integrated HDCP copy protection I guess. Consumer electronics takes over bad IT habits.

As long as we cannot transfer electricity wireless, we will have to have cables. One more or less does not make the big difference to me. And I think it can't be healthy to live in these mixed up frequency soups we already have nowadays.

My former (older) flatpanel TV came with an external box, with the tuner, electronics and all connectors integrated there. That was good for tidy wall mounting.
You had just 2 long cables that ran up the wall. One for power and one combo for picture&sound. The box stands with your other equipment and takes all connections with short cables.

Actually most TVs come as "all-in-one" devices. Pioneer does one optional external connector box with the usual audio and video connectors. The output to the TV goes over HDMI. Something like that helps to lower the amount of visible cables.

Or you could go the consequent but more expensive way with a real video processor like from DVDO, Crystalio, Lumagen, ect.

Thanks for your helpfull replies. I was just thinking ahead. I have pretty much the situation you suggest Adrian, though not HDMI / HD since the Plasma is about 6 years old now...but sill gives an excellent picture on std DVD with component in. That and a power lead are all I need since the TV signals are all processed to component (and not bad like that at all) by my Denon AV receiver.

I was just thinking every wire taken out of the equation makes life easier.
