I bought model RDRHX900 6 months ago. I found, rather late in the day that it would not read discs of any sort.
Sony has declared it 'beyond economic repair'. I am not being told how this situation can arise in a model only just out of production and still well within warranty. I am not happy to accept a different Sony model as, it seems to me, a similar failure just outside the one year warranty period, would leave me with a useless machine and no comeback. I don't know if this catastrophic potential limit on the unit's lifespan is restricted to this model or whether it affects the whole Sony line-up. If I do find out, I will let the forum know but it may be a good idea to avoid this brand for the time being. It may or may not come as a surprise to know that Dixons, the supplier, is currently contesting my bid for a refund. At no point, of course, have either Sony or Dixons apologised for the failure. if you get a new model do not open the box and go back within a week and ask for a refund,i think that this may be the only way,you will get a 1 year warrenty with the replacement
