Hiya,
Johns wifey here....
I have just put on the plasma and tv drive and powered up the N-vi and i have NO sound. Have checked all the leads and everything there seems in order!
I am NOT a happy bunny. He has got the right hump...worst of all i am now watching my reliable portable tv via my aerial.
Cheers

Hey Mrs R1.
At least you have found the on button on the NVi. Mine just looks at the DVD5 & AV2 & shakes her head, yet finds programing that infedel of a hard drive a doddle as i sit there with a (slightly) bemused look on my face..

Glad you like what it does and enjoy watching with it.

Heheheee...in my house i read everything and study. Men seem to just want to plug in there toys and expect it to work.
I queried as to why the volume button doesnt work on the tv drive remote. The answer was 'it never has' After speaking with Telewest thisevening i am informed that you have to 'program'it in. He is way too lazy to do that and yet has all this expensive equipment...LOL Smile

Yup. My second n-vi's started to develop that habit now too, just like my first. Strange. It was well behaved at first but I had to do two hard reboots yesterday. And I had my first "please turn me off" message from this unit too. Pain in the arse.

I had a thought last night about starting a "bug" thread. A place where you can drop off the exact circumstances of the failure shortly after you experienced it and whilst all the details are fresh in your mind.

Given what appears to be limited scenario testing on the n-vi this may be of assistance in debugging the software.

Duncan,

One of the things that I always thought would have been useful in the FAQ section would be an entry for the AV2, DVD5, nVi with a list of all the firmware releases and what was added and fixed in every release.

That way people could very easily checkup and whether they were running the latest release and if not if their issues had been already fixed.

Now that sounds like an excellent idea! In much the same way that release notes for, say, hardware drivers list the issues addressed.

What about it Adam?

We are looking in to this shortly, n-Vi issues have taken priority

Could have sworn that I posted here a couple of days ago about a similar problem with my n-Vi, but it seems to have disappeared! The problem in my case is intermittent loss of sound from the optical input when switching to a sky HD channel broadcasting in dolby digital. A soft reboot usually restores the sound. I have passed the details to Naim, so hope they will be able to replicate the problem in their R&D department and find a fix.

mine lost sound again tonight while i was flicking through channels, put it in stand by powered it up and it was ok again, all these problems seem to be connected to the optical input either from sky-hd or telewest tv drive, have tried some more dvd-audio discs all seem to work fine, except for tubular bells, which i reported to naim and they are looking for a fix to this problem as well.

Duncan,

as you I got this strange behaviour:
after two software updates some weeks ago my third n-Vi worked quite good. But now it starts again to get problems more and more often, things that worked immediately after the software updates!
As I am a software developer I know that software does not wear out or degrade after time. So that it really weird!

Hi Margan. What version are you running? Maybe I need to call my dealer and see if we can lay hands on an update.

As you say it is strange that the behaviour changes over time. The ony other salient factor I can think of is the recent heat we've been having here ... I leave my n-Vi on all the time.

And the lack of repeatability is another factor that makes bug chasing a pain - I used to write software too! The issue I documented on the Bug List thread wasn't there yesteday when I went through exactly the same process. Or at least I though I did. I guess there must have been some subtle difference in what I did that made everthing work smoothly. Just wish I knew what it was ...
