Here's a treat, zillions of posts here but never in home theatre!

Since our town now has precisely zero outlets which rent DVD's can anyone tell me their experience with the online DVD rental companies. I'm aware of Amazon and that is about it.

Any top tips or recommendations?

bruce, do a search on the internet there are loads of them, have used a couple in the past can't remember the name of the first who were quite good, also used tescos they were rubbish only ever got films from the bottom of my list none of the latest releases,

I have used Amazon for about 2 years which i cant recommend highly enough.I do the 6 discs a month for £10 all delivered which i think is good value.

A quick google gives you better values/ dvds for £10 a month!

I gave up on my subscription.

For me - I selected films on my list I would have liked to watch (E.g. Irreversible - heavy film but I wanted to form an opinion) but after a day at work I didn't want to watch it.at the weekend the same. These films built up (yes I did watch many of them, and was glad I did) but at one point I had 3 films on DVD I wanted to see but was not in the mood to see and went to the video store to hire a more appropriate film for my mood. I canceled my subscription - however try it,if it works for you.......

Thanks for the replies, Amazon look reasonable value if the choice is good. Tend to rent very few in the summer so just have to accept will not always use the service very cost-effectively. I'll probably so the cheaper 1-2 discs a month service.

Stuart, as I said, 'going to the video store' is not an option in my immediate locality.

I use the lovefilm service. One thing they've introduced is a 3 months pay in advance package. Which makes it very cost competitive.

They also have a 'freeze my account' option which I use when I go away on holiday, or know I'll probably not watch stuff for a while. Makes it good value as it holds your subscription, but you don't pay while the account's frozen.

This love film appeared started appearing on my creit card statements, they have been takinh £12.99 from my card for the the lst 3 months.

I had never heard of them prior to this.

My c/c company are now aware.

I vote for amazon anyway . . .

I used Amazon for a while, excellent service (plus 10% off all DVD purchases when I was a member). The good thing about Amazon is the breadth of stuff you can rent - Beijing Bicycle for example, excellent stuff!

I use ilovefilm which used to be screenselect. I have 3 dvd's at a time and it costs £15 a month. I can have as many returns as needed over the month. Great when you have diverse tastes of little ones, 8 year olds and adults.

Great service, occasional problems with faulty discs which I rather expect will happen whichever club you are in. Problems worse with the kids discs, think they may have been used as frisbees.
