Is there a good processor out there with three amps in ? That can be used in a all Naim set up that is not made by Naim?

Yamaha used to do one, I think there is still a version of it that you can get. It powers your centre channel and rears. It is meant to be an add on to a high end two channel system. Don't know much more sorry Neill |

There is no longer any need to limit yourself purely to a three channel AV amp thing, since most 5.1 or 7.1 AV amps now will allow you to output the front two channels via an existing stereo system. It may sound like you're spending more than you need to by buying the extra two channels you don't actually need, but since things have moved on since the first days of AV and due to volumes of production you'll probably pay a simular price for a 5.1 or 7.1 channel amp. You'll also find that if you come to sell it on in a few years time, you'll probably find it easier to sell on the full AV amp as it has a wider market. Failing that you would also have the option of using it somewhere else in the house on it's own if you so wished to.

But the Yamaha DSP-E800, for such it was, now only on eBay, sells for less than £100, even for items that are pristine. Even the boxes are mint, some of them.

Well the left rear of my DSP-E800 has died, was using the centre and rears to power 2 NAP140's so now I either go AV2 or something else. While the AV2 sounds brilliant, and I just have the funds to buy one but trying to organise the video switching is the problem:- Outputs Denon 3910 DVD - HDMI or DVD Homechoice - Scart (RGB) or SVHS PC Media Centre - DVD, HDMI, Component Freeview - Scart RGB, SVHS Video - SVHS Display Plasma - SVHS, PC, component Projector - SVHS, PC, DVI, HDMI (With HDCP), component I have no problem with the audio part of it but the video switching issue is a nightmare made worse by the copy protection rubbish that is being imposed. I can't find a suitable solution that would work with an AV2 at a sensible cost (And HWMBO must be able to operate it). |

Thanks for the input, the old Yam,was the one Russ Andrews had in his old set up.I have just got a new Sony STR-DA1200ES.And its the best £360.00 I have spent.B-ray and HD Through it is so so much better, than STdvd. The sound though not Naim is bloody good .You can do so much with this Amp.My main reason for getting this was the three HDMI, One in two out,and the sound ,i put it through my SBLs just to see what it could do and it was very good. For twice the money you will be hard pushed to better it

There's a pretty wonderful option for you video-wise here Stuart. Route all your video sources through a Lumagen or similar scaler. You get absolutely fantastic picture quality to boot, and I overcame the problem with SWMBO by using a learning remote which can be programmed for macros, in my case a Philips Pronto. You've just got to educate your dearly beloved to keep the thing pointed at the units until it's finished the command string. |
