I can only tell you what the german sales told me.
HD-DVD or Blue-Ray is a complete new technologie on the hardware side. So there would be nothing left of what ever has to do with the DVD-Section in the n-vi.
In short words: It would be a new machine.

n-Vi/DVD5 currently only supports standard DVD resolution discs (576p PAL/480p NTSC output).
(scaler, when available, should allow full scaled 1080p output.)
