With that amount of intermittent behavior, are you absolutely sure that there is not some local environmental effect that relates to the way in which the processor behaves? (Not that this excuses any faults on the processor's part, but it may affect performance in general.)

As it's been happening for quite a while I tried using it in several different ways but it still happens, so unless there's a solution (soon) I think I'm going to give up.

Does the issue happen with only the DVD5 connected to the AV2 (no other sources). I realise there is a timescale involved. I also find it very bizzare that mine works ok with DVD5 + other digital/analogue connections running latest code, but your one, thats been repaired on various occasions, seems to sport the same problem each time.

My diagnostic is that if you have the same issue with ONLY DVD5 connected via SPDIF, then its most likely AV2 at fault.

If you don't, then its got something to do with one of the other devices causing interference.

Another question, do you have a device for monitoring mains voltage? I wonder if your mains supply is varying greatly.

Lastly, check for ground loops in your system

What your asking is rather awkward, my dealer normally does most of this for me (can't reach the wires from my wheelchair). Measuring the mains, I haven't got a clue, if it had something to do with a loop surely I wouldn't get long breaks where everything works perfect.

Apparently I'm not the only one, if you have a look here: AVforums & start from post 2666 & 2676.

Had the same problem several years ago.

It's the Gen6 PCB in the AV2.

Also a good idea to update to latest Firmware.

Further thoughts

Send the AV2 to Naim Audio for Repair and a Firmware Update.

Also, it's critical that you NEVER connect or disconnect any Cables when the AV2 is "On" or in "Standby" Mode.

In other words, make sure the power is turned off (Switch on back Panel) before connecting or disconnecting cables.

Once the unit is full Off, wait two (2) minutes before making any connections, from AV2 or the Source components.

My AV2 has been repaired twice not several & only once for this fault. I also found the fact that your AV2 works fine to be a bit patronising indicating that it's something I've done to cause the problem.

Point taken, but it is not my intention to patronise.

I am more frustrated, than anything else, that you are still having problems after the unit has been returned to naim.

I suggest you contact me via: info@naimaudio.com

Although Naim have made/make some great products, IMO for AV rear-channels etc etc there are better cheaper products.

To be fair apart from this problem I can;t complain about Naim. I've had several Lexicon's, a CP3, DC2 & an MC8 & I still prefer my AV2, I love the sound + as an extra bonus it looks as good as it sounds.

Hopefully I get it sorted & have until Naim bring out something better.

Charlie

P.S. (AV@naim Thanks) I'll send an email sometime tomorrow.

Hi Charles,

I have been a Naim retailer for more then thirty years.

As I said in my previous post, I had exactly the same problem with my AV2.

Also, one of my customers AV2 had the same problem.

My unit had the Gen6 PCB replaced, and it has been working perfectly for more then three years.

My customers unit had a cold-solder-joint on the Gen6 PCB.

When it was returned from Naim it has also been working perfectly.

The Gen6 PCB is responsible for locking onto incoming signals, deciding what mode of processing is required, and turning on Dolby Digital, etc.

I'm fairly confident this is the root of the problem.

Once again your best bet is to send it to Naim for repair and update.
