Blue Ray to be Obsolete?

Hold on a sec., that link is to an article about blue ray players to be obsolete. It's referring to a 'Java' update to allow future players to include picture-in-picture capability (if you like that kind of thing).

Blu-ray is not becoming obsolete - its just that the first and second gen players will not be able to play Java enabled features on upcoming discs.

As a first gen owner, I readily admit that this hurts BUT it is no different from when sd dvd adopted the DTS standard and first / second gen players could not play DTS tracks and some players could not play dual layer discs etc. Anyone remember the whole Matrix fiasco?

Allan / markusp,

Yes - you're correct, it is a stupid headline, but it wasn't mine.

This just highlights the ongoing position that lots of things around HD is in a state of flux.

I suspect that they will be able to produce discs that will react according to what sub-system is on the machine that the disc is being played on.

It just shows how desparate magazines are to sell copy.

If you checkout the dvdempire web site - http://www.dvdempire.com there are some interesting figures on the relative sales of blu-ray and HD disks.
