My first post, so be gentle!
Just took delivery of my n-vi yesterday. Annoyingly there is a problem with the sound from the optical input (from a new sky HD box, working perfectly with my Denon AV amp previously). I am wondering if there is something obvious I have missed, or whether the n-vi is faulty.
I am getting lots of random 'pops', 'crackles' and 'thumps' only when watching sky, the sound replay for discs/DVD's is absolutely fine. My dealer gave me a CDR to install the PIC-d00-75 update + some emailed instructions from Naim (my software version is 2.6.6.163 by the way). It was very straightforward to install, allowing me to set the optical input sample rate to 48khz (I believe this is supposed to address this issue). This did not cure the problem. I now have the latest update (PIC-d00-84)installed, but still no better.
I will obviously be talking to my dealer and/or Naim about this, but wondered if any other n-vi owners have had the same problem and know of a simple solution?
David

Thanks. I don't think it is atmospherics, have swapped it with my Denon AVR 2805 today and this works fine.

Get on the phone with Naim Audio (England) and discuss about your problem(s). They are very nice and professional people (based on my own experience). It seems to me that the N-vi has a lot of issues since its release and only Naim knows what to do. Others cannot help you.

if you look on 'av forums' there seems to be many issues with Sky Hd's digital output.I would check this out then give Naim a call.

Thanks. As I mentioned above, the Sky HD optical output was working ok with my Denon amp so seems to point the finger at the n-Vi. I have contacted Naim who were very helpful. They are going to replace my n-Vi. Hope this solves it!

I also have Sky HD and find that when changing channels, a pop can occur when Sky switches from DD to PCM stereo, or vice-versa. Occasionally the mode change would hang and require the n-Vi to be re-booted. Naim supplied me with a PIC-d00-92 update, which seems to be a good improvement over the '84'.

Would be good to be able to check regularly for the latest updates.

Regards

Allen

Thanks Allen. Hopefully the replacement n-Vi will come with the most up to date software.
The link to web site was supplied confidentially by my dealer, to see if we could resolve the problem after getting my n-Vi home last saturday and to save me a long journey back to the shop for him to update it. He did this as a one off as I was somewhat disappointed (understatement!) to have a fault with the n-Vi having waited nearly 4 months for it to arrive!

Just to update the thread, had the replacement n-Vi installed by my dealer at the end of last week and the sound from the optical input has been working fine since(in fact the sound quality is excellent) As with AllenB, I am getting an occasional "thump" when changing channels, but otherwise very happy with the performance of the n-Vi.
