I bought my DVD5 thinking it would only be a couple of months or so until they came out, so far it seams to be forgotten, it's quite a disappointment that it's still in the sales literature. Is there ever going to be one or would I be better looking elsewhere for another DVD player.

Hi Charles & welcome.

My 'two months' started 22 months ago, so you have a while to go yet <tongue in cheek smiley>

To be honest I have now started to breath again & all but given up.

Little of what has been written in this forum recently gives me any hope.

For sure the DVD5 is truly excellent at DVD.
Unfortunately unscaled HD is superior (in my view) plus there are now a multitude of scalers out there. I just wanted mine to fit in the DVD5 box.

It should be ready sometime within the next <insert best guess> though :-

Dear Av@Naim............. So we will be able to put a scaler board into my DVD5 in 2 months time then?
Please?
Pretty please?

Thats the idea. (I am not aware of release date as yet though).

Gotta say....I wouldn't hold your breath...

I've asked a good few times now and gotten the old 'soon' response from a few people in Naim.

Getting remarkably irritating not being able to get some information on it from Naim. But, unfortunately, the longer it takes to come out, and the more it costs north of £1k, the less I'll eventually be inclined to get one. Shame really.

I take it then that although it's still in the sales bumph there's not much chance of it happening, in which case they could at least enable interlace through the DVI output (if Sky can do it then NAIM should be able to do it) that way you could use a third party scaler with the best possible connection. I already have it going through a Lumagen VisionHDQ by scart but it would be nice to use the DVI.

If it isn't going to happen then they should remove it from all sales literature or give some decent indication of when it it will happen.

Charlie,

My understanding is that it is still under development and they have every intention of bringing it out. However, when, how much, or it's exact spec. is not known.

I've asked publically and also privately and gotten the same replies. Oh well.

As to DVI interlace, perhaps that would be in the next DVD5 software release which is being worked on also. But, again no dates of when we'll see that.

I think they have been working hard on developing the NaimNet products and unfortunately gotten hit with numerous issues with the n-Vi that has taken a lot from their development team. I do feel for them as their intentions for these products are very good.

But as a consumer, slightly let down on ongoing developments.

Then again, my DVD5/AV2/250/140s etc. combination is perhaps one of the best that many people I know have, so I do very much enjoy the products. Watched Hustle&Flow at the weekend and the soundtrack was glorious.

I'm really chuffed with what I've got (AV2/DVD5/175/150) but I want more, even if I'd known about the scaler before I bought the DVD5 I would still have bought it. It still would be nice to get interlaced from the DVI or the scaler, just have to wait & see.
