Just wondering if anyone's imported one of Toshiba's HD-DVD players and is using it with a Naim system and what their impressions are?

I've had the opportunity to play around with one of these things and was realy impressed by just how much it raises the bar (both video and audio) compared to regular DVD. This was in a system similar to my own using a good quality projector and sound system. I posted about it in detail at the time so please search against my posts in this part of the forum for further details.

Actually, I'm quite shocked that I havn't bought one myself already. However, European HD-DVD players should be available in the UK from November so I'll probably pick one up then.

Hi Munch,

That's far more than I'm thinking of paying. That must be for a blu-ray player of some sort. I've considered getting the cheaper of the two Toshiba players (at about £400, I think) but then started to consider the more expensive player (£700 ?) because it has 1080p output. I'd like 1080p as a feature for the future when I get a 1080p display but on closer examination I see the Tosh is 'fake' 1080p at 60Hz. What I want is 1080p at 24Hz direct off the disk, no messing with the signal. It looks like we are not going to get that in this generation of players so I might as well get a 1080i machine for now and let my video processor do the de-interlacing.

As such, I'm going to buy the HD-DVD add-on drive for the Xbox360. £120 including a remote control and one free HD-DVD disk (King Kong). My son already has his Xbox 360 in the cinema room wired into the video processor so we own two-thirds of the player already.

Munch - I have seen Crash here and thought it was quite good. Reminded me very much of a film called Magnolia, written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.

Interested in it?

I started it!!!

Just thought I'd try over here for more opinions. I'm surprised that more people haven't tried one from here.
