can you get a sub feed out of a 552 , other than at the speaker terminals

Yes - from one of the spare 4 pin sockets on the 552 PS - connect via a padded sub lead.

I used this - now connected via high level from the speakers.

What improvement is there from switching to high level input?, and this this for AV or Audio purposes.
