No doubt riding the exercise bike is GOOD FOR ME but it is boring. Any suggestions for rousing music to listen to which relieves the tedium and motivates the spirits. At present I tend to go for military bands and Welsh choirs.

Depends on what makes one tick.

I go for Funky House (mostly Hed Kandi albums). With the occasional Rammstein thrown in. This does wonders for me.

Dear John,

Surely it would be easier to use a knife, or even a potato peeler, than poor Basia!

Having just finished using a "turbo trainer" whilst recovering from my broken elbow (not allowed to ride outdoors in case of any further accidents), I would say anything that you enjoy, & preferably has a beat/tempo that is in time with your cycling cadence, ideally. eg if you cycle at 90rpm, a beat of 45 or 90 bpm will be easy for you to keep in ryhthm with.
I found indoor cycling to be pretty boring.
Maybe put the tour de france on the tv as inspiration?
Matt.

Yello,
The Race
The album is Flag Winker
Other than that, Get the Talking Heads dvd and album, Stop Making Sense.
Get them to play the dvd on the screen in front of you.
You will not walk when you get off the bike after that. Winker

Spinning classes use repetitive dance type music of at least 130bpm, so you have a tempo to keep to...aids better discipline etc...

Thats why Talking Heads Stop Making Sense would be good.
You will start slow and build up.
And having the DVD to look at, can only be a bonus

Music is fine, but what really relieves the exercise tedium, completely engages the mind, and transports me somewhere else is RADIOLAB Makes the time absolutely fly.

I could go on almost endlessly about these fascinating shows and how great they are, how entertaining, how inspiring, how creative. Each hour long show is comprised of several pieces devoted to a broad theme or subject: Time, Space, Music, Morality, Mortality, Laughter, Placebos, Mystery, Zoos are just a few. The shows are extremely well produced ... the interplay of voices, sound, and music is artful and a joy to listen to. Especially effective with headphones as they make excellent use of sonic space.

Check them out ... you'll be really glad you did.

All best,
Fred
