Yo!
I own a business. My business was affected by the recent postal strikes - customer payments were late getting to me, so I had to pay all (well, all 3) of the staff salaries out of my own pocket, blah blah blah. Eventually everything got sorted out with no harm done and a microscopic amount of inconvenience. I have now received a standard letter, signed with a scan of Allan Leighton's signature, saying that the customer compensation scheme do not cover disruption due to industrial action. Fair enough, I think. I imagine that all businesses affected by the strike would have got the same letter - I hadn't complained (to the Post Office). The letter then goes on to say that as a gesture of goodwill on behalf of the customers, the Post Office will donate £1million towards the London bid to host the Olympic Games. How on earth can such a donation be relevant to compensation? How can this donation be relevant to me? Do I care? No, not really. Just a bit baffled by the 'logic'. ag |

It's obvious
If London does get to host the Olympics then there will be a boost to commerce in London making you rich. Not convinced ?? Nana |

Fair points, but how is this bid related to the disruption? The Olympic bid will (and is) go(ing) ahead regardless of whether the postal workers are on strike; and irrespective of whether or not I suffered any disruption. Still baffled. ag |
