Hi
I am thinking of buying an external cd-writer and possibly dvd reader for my old laptop . I have a pcmcia adapter card with usb 2 ports so this should not be a problem. I was looking at this one (see below link) and it seems remarkably cheap for all it seems to do. Is there anything wrong with it? If so anybody know anything better . I can only go to about £90 max. http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=51800 |

Hi
I would say for the money it offers superb value. I tried an earlier model on my laptop and the write speed was restricted to 4 speed because of the laptop's cd drive and the connection was 1st generation USB but this one looks the biz. Regards Jim |

It looks a really good deal - Iomega never get amazing reviews for their speed, but I expect in the real world, differences will be insignificant.
A real plus is Iomega's level of customer service, which is exemplary. A couple of years back, I had a lot of hassle with my Jaz drive & cartridges. They cheerfully sent out replacements, pre-paid labels etc instantly. In fact, they kept sending out replacement cartridges [at about £90 a pop] until I had around £1200 worth of the buggers kicking around, as they seemingly arrived with every post. Being a good boy, of course I did return them [more pre-paid labels], but it was refreshing to come across an IT company whose cockups seemed to be consumer orientated. Maybe that's why they don't make as much money as they used to.... throb |
