A nice bottle of Ardbeg Corryvreckan turned up today. Unfortunately I am on taxi duty for my nearest and dearest tonight so the inaugural tasting will have to wait until later this weekend. For now I have to content myself with a mug of Gold Blend.

One of the few things I'm missing since I moved to Oz is the occasional bottle of Cider, just doesn't taste the same down under. |

Its so easy to make your own cider. All you need is a bucket with a lid that holds 40pints/ sugar/ and a boots kit. Leave for a week, bottle leave for another week and drink. |

Some drinkers have it tough ...
Two devout Christian pub landlords have barricaded themselves in their pub after being removed from their post due to their strict beliefs. Krista and John Fleming, who started to run the Kings Head in North London last year angered locals when it banned gambling on horse racing, removed the dart board and put a sign outside the pub saying, "No swearing". Regulars told the British papers, including the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mail, that Krista (36) would go around tables holding a Bible and tell off people who swore. One regular reported that the pub quizzes contained lots of questions on the Bible. One George Whipps said, "Those two were almost the ruin of this place. They told everyone who swore once they would be banned. They barred people who had been coming here for 30-odd years." The Flemings upset the regulars so badly that the owners, Oakfield Taverns Limited, to replace them with a more liberal landlord, Jim Jennings. However, the Flemings have no locked themselves in the flat above the pub, along with three of their six children. The Flemings claim that they were trying to make the Kings Head more woman-friendly, so that two women could, "come into the pub, buy a bottle of wine and feel comfortable drinking it. We have a very strong faith and we have good family values. What we were trying to do was fulfil a remit." It is unclear however, if their remit also included lessons on how to be good Christians. Krista also blamed the owners for moving the pub's Sky Sports TV coverage and the credit card machine, while deliveries were inconsistent. The case is going before a county tribunal on 14 July. Jennings and Oakfield Taverns have not talked about the case. Regulars claim the pub has improved greatly since the change in landlords, with Whipps saying, "I'm glad it's back to normal. This pub in the last eight days has perked up 100 percent. All of the old regulars are back." A sign outside the entrance to the Kings Head now reads, "Swearing Now Allowed." Source |

Had some of that on draught at the White Horse in Parsons Green on 4th July - they had an American beer festival featuring imported American beers and British beers that use American Hops. It was excellent - the best beer of the evening so I had more than one. |

Drinking coffee from haitian beans. Distinctive taste and smell, especially when the beans are freshly roasted. I like it a bit better two weeks later. The taste has softened up.
