Forgotten I'd got this photo of Newton (don't claim it's a great one!) looking over the bay towards Dustanburgh. (The aforementioned wonderful pub is just off to the right, in the cluster of Natty Trust fishermen's cottages.) And a view further up the coast, looking north from Seahouses towards Bamburgh (Lindisfarne just on the horizon on the right). |

....yep easy to sail out but hell to get back through. Novice sailors are warned to beware, especially if reliant entirely on wind power. |

The wonders of camera-phones. If only I'd had a real camera on me!

Am I right in thinking it's Durdle Door at low tide? The Jurassic coast - wonderful part of the British coastline.
Phone indeed! Still it takes a very reasonable picture. I guess this is the Californian equivalent.... Chris Morton kindly took me out for some sight seeing when I visited him last year - I took this in the Bodega Bay area to the north east of San Francisco. I'm sure some of our Stateside contributors could tell you exactly where it is and what the island is called: |

Hi Geoff, The Farne Islands have some terrific drift dives, up to 6 knots over the Grace Darling wreck. Exhilarating as long as you have a good boat covering you. The best drift I have done however was the Portland Race - now that was truly fantastic at over 8 knots and ending up on the mussel beds!! FF |

I make no claims of the quality of the photo, but of the subject matter!
Passing overhead today, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight made four passes over the town. They were so low that you could smell as well as hear those glorious RR Merlin engines. Made this small boy very happy! |

Hardly Kew - far too many weeds, but I took this yesterday in my back garden - I love Cowslips |

Anacamptis pyramidalis, taken in mid-Suffolk, 22nd July 2006:
Wild Cowslips, or better still Oxslips, are usually quite a good indicator of the likely presence of orchids. Some species of orchid are, of course, out at the same time as the 'slips - like the site I hope to be going to on Monday, at which five species of orchid have been recorded – Common-spotted, Green-winged, Bee, Pyramidal and Frog orchid (for which it is the last remaining site in Suffolk). Other flowers present that are now scarce in Suffolk include Spiny Restharrow and the Sulphur Clover. |

Very nice picture James and enjoy your Bank Holiday botanical adventure! No orchids here but the fritillaries are doing ok - just a pitty the blooms don't last for longer. Kind regards, Peter |
