Guys I am looking for some real worl experience of using this product.

Its basically an 8 track recorder with a harddrive.

What I need to know is can it be connected to a computer for monitoring and mixing purposes.

It has midi in and midi out. What other kit would I need to connect this to a computer?

How would the interface behave, what software would I need to see the tascam on the screen, or does it only work the other way, i.e. putting stuff onto the tascam?

As you can see I don't have even a single clue. My step dad has got one for his birthday, and bless him he has even less of an idea.

I am guessing that if he wishes to use a computer withj it he will need a new one, the one he has here is ark material.

Could this tascam be used with a Mac? If not what would be a minimum spec computer, and what software/hardware requirements for the midi.

Cheers guys.

On the inputs and outputs, it has a scsi port for connect cdr etc
Midi in and out (5 pin)
audio out (phono)
Digital out (phono)

INputs, lots of them for instruments etc.

It's a standalone product, you don't need to connect it to anything.

But of course you can. There are megabytes of information here http://www.tascam.com/product_info.php?pid=273
