Scotty - caught a glimpse of your match on MOTD and agree it didn't look good apart from Dean Ashton who looked as if he just needs a few matches to start knocking them in. I'm sure you'll be fine again this season.
My thoughts are Derby and Wigan will struggle at the foot of the table. I think Boro, Bolton and Fulham will find it tough and I'd expect one of them to take the third relegation place. I would expect W-Ham to finish above Man City despite Saturday's result (not keen on City's manager). ATB Rotf |

Scotty/Rotf - perhaps you'll be swapping places this season?
Sorry to say it but I think West Ham will struggle again this season, although probably too much quality there compared to some of the other teams to go down. A lot will depend on the fitness of Ashton, Ljungberg & Bellamy, as there isn't a lot of strength in depth. "COYB" Mark P.S. Scotty - thanks so much for taking Richard Wright off our hands! |

Jet, Older fans will tell you of the time that it was quite common for fans to attend both Newcastle and Sunderland games alternately without the animosity that has developed with the younger generation. I am out in Turkey on holliday at the moment and watched the Sunderland game on Greek satellite TV with a load of Toon mates and Sunderland fans. We cheered as loudly as the Sunderland fans when Chops scored. It was great to see him get the great start at Sunderland that he never really got in the first team at Newcastle. It would be cheap to remind you that I saw his only first team goal in a black and white shirt at your place as well! What we had not realised was that the bar owner also managed to pick up the Newcastle game immediately afterwards. As a consequence the beer intake was rather more than bargained for!! Staggered home rather tired and emotional later. Regards Nic |

Nic - I predict you'll have an excellent season: it would be good to see somebody get in amongst the usual top four. |

ManU have blown it then...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only similarly bad starts to the season were in '92 when they lost the first two and '98 when they drew them. Mind they did go on to win the premiership in 92/93 and the treble in 98/99. Bollox. |

..My late father (born and bred on the wear) couldn't understand the hatred between the 2 sets of fans he was happy enough if NUFC won as long as it wasn't against us! ...he passed away 25 years ago .....I also have lots of mates who support NUFC and despise violence of any kind at football matches .....And yet...I could NEVER cheer a NUFC goal in any circumstances what-so-ever (even against Glasgow Rangers!!- Celtic being my "other" team) I also know of a fellow Mackem season ticket holder who avoids even shopping in Newcastle because he hates NUFC so much! ( me? I reckon Newcastle is a crackin' night out) Rivalry eh? |

Dearie Dearie me!
...Given I was quick off the mark to hail our opening day win against Spurs (remember when they were crap?) I feel it's only right to post following a mauling off Wigan .... .....That's right Wigan ...who actually paid money for Titus Bramble ...and who lost their talismanic manager at the end of last season ...Wigan who were everybody's team most likely to to go down this season ... ...The same Wigan who absolutely walloped us today!!! Keano is NOT happy and all I can say is NOW we'll find out how he deals with the first real hammering in his managerial career (apart from our result against the Tractor Boys last season at Portman Road ROTF??) ..Anyway two easy games coming up against Liverpool + Man U so time to get some points on the board! .... |

Jet,
If it is any consolation, I thought MOTD made us look good, (with full beer goggles on), despite being the last game on as usual. Having actually been to the game, the reality was that Villa were always first to the ball. We played narrow through the middle and showed absolutely no creativity in midfield, and they could easily have won. Still 4 points from 6 is a bonus for a team seeking its first home goal since Feb last year. The Hammers are blowing them but others are bursting them! Regards Nic |

..It's funny old game innit? Nic ...NUFC looked worryingly good against Bolton last week ...till we found out today that Bolton really are crap and NUFC still have a few problems ...we beat Spurs and thought we were pretty competitive ..then Everton spanked Spurs ..so we thought mebbe's Spurs were as bad as Bolton and perhaps we weren't that good...THEN Spurs hammered Derby so perhaps we really are going to be ok in this division ...
then Wigan humiliate Boro ...only for Boro to beat Fulham .. Then we played Wigan and AAAAAAAAAAGGGH! ...early season results eh? confused? you will be! |
