Sorry mate, I don't mean it, I like the Toon, really. I think Big Sam will come good given time, although he'll never play the football you guys want Newcastle to. I don't believe you'll break into the top 4 though. quote: The last time I was at QPR we were stuffed 3-0 aided by a certain Les Ferdinand, who later of course became Sir Les of The Toon.
I remember. And KK told Andy Cole that he should pay attention to how a real striker plays the game, then bought him not long after! Regards Mark

Here we go again.
Cannot say that I am sorry to see him go. The football has been dire. I only hope that if it does turn out to be Shearer replacing him, that his reputation as a fantastic footballer is not sullied by becoming our manager. Mind you who ever thought that Keegan would have the impact that he did.
Before anyone says it, I know we did not win anything under Keegan, but it was bloody exciting.

I think Sam resigned rather than was sacked - I'm not sure he felt he could do what was needed.
I hope that Newcastle find a new Keegan, it was great to watch.
If it is Alan Shearer then I wish him good luck - superb player and comes across as a really decent bloke. (I hope he's a better manager than the late great Jackie Milburn was at Ipswich - fantastic player, but not the the best manager).
The advantage Shearer would have in the dressing room over some others is that nobody could back chat him and say I'm a better player than you ever were.
It would also be good to see an English manager win something. We need Newcastle to well. I really want to see Newcastle, West Ham, Everton and Aston Villa breaking up the dominance of the four at the top - makes everything more interesting and exciting.

No, ROTF, I don't think so. He's out of the same mould in my opinion.

Shearer is far too intelligent to take on Newcastle at the moment. He'll wait for the next time round. As for Redknapp, as someone who couldn't give a fig about Newcastle I think the prospect of him becoming manager is hilarious! Out with the old spiv in with the new one!

Bob, As someone who does give a fig about Newcastle, I can only concur with your comments which are spot on. My only worry was that the Shearer bandwagon was being pushed so heavily within the press it might happen. Wanting Shearer as the manager is certainly not a prevalent view amongst season ticket holders I know. Regarding Redknapp, he was about as far off my radar as Souness was! It is no fun having your team as the longest running soap in football. Regards Nic quote: Originally posted by bob mccluckie: Shearer is far too intelligent to take on Newcastle at the moment. [quote]It would also be good to see an English manager win something. we need Newcastle to do well
...AAAAAAGGGH ...god forbid that EVER happens ..I well remember the OTT reaction from the "Toon Army" fans (sic) whenever they were beaten during the so-called golden era (ie 5 minutes when KK was manager)...mucho "crying" after a late goal had ended their quest for a trophy AGAIN (all the while looking through the gaps in their hands to ensure Sky were still pointing their camera's at them)
..In the realms of "look at me" football fans NUFC hold top position ....underneath the canny geordie exterior lurks a smug arrogance not understood by those who choose to believe the media hype ....NUFC are not a small club but they are not (nor have ever been) a really massive club
...They have the advantage of a catchment area much larger than any other similar Premiership team so they should have the big attendances they so often point to as a reason to love them (?)...their away support IS very impressive (ie identical to Sunderland's) but let's not wish for any real success for the barcodes - we would all drown in a sea of smugosity!

Jet,
When I am more sober I will debate some of these points with you (post 5-a-side and visit to the pub is not the time!). Diccus will attest I am a reasonable man for a "barcode".
