Went to see it at the weekend. Came out and wasn't sure if l liked it but want to watch it again to help concrete my opinion. Has anyone else seen it and what did you think=,and yes l know it was not as good as the first one, but that goes without saying. Do you reckon it was left so they could make another sequel or did we see the Machines paying homage to a dead keeanu after he had killed mr Smith ?

It felt more cohesive than Reloaded (and better overall), but I was, ironically, less tickled througout it than I was by Reloaded.

Of course the original is definitely the best.

I thought it was worse than reloaded. One of the big problems I had with reloaded was that neo was pretty much indestructable so nothing really seemed to matter since no one could touch him.

In revolutions this continued and became even worse as he was now indestructable in the real world as well.

The film was good. I think it may be deemed as a poorer film as you constantly find yourself making too many comparisions to the first film.

At the end of the day they had to make each film different so that it escaped the mould of the first film. It is better for people to come out of a cinema thinking "I need to see that again" as I did. Than to say "well that was exactly the same as the first film"

I think that there could possibly be a forth film. There is a couple of lines that left yourself asking the question "Will they make a forth?"

It is in the final scenes when the Oracle is talking to the little girl and the little girls asks "Do you think we will see Neo again (or something like that) and the Oracle replies whilst looking at the sun "I'm sure we will see Neo again one day"

This could have been thrown in to make you ask that question when the makers know that they won't be making a forth film. I guess we will have to just wait and see.

l thought the Rave scences were seriously not required. Rip off from Blade 1 and 2 where they fit really well. l thought they could have done more with such a brilliant oringianl story line . Have this feeling in the back of my mind it turned into the usuall Hollywood money making block buster. CANT WAIT UNTIL LORD OF THE RINGS 3 HOORAY

I just had the 'honour' of seeing the first Matrix film for the first time. WHAT A LOAD OF SHITE! If this was the best one, I think I'll spend me money on a bag of sweets instead of the sequels. OK, good effects. But the dialogue ("I'm going in". "You can't, it's too dangerous". "I have to". "Well if you're going, I'm coming with you") . Sorry, but No. Not good enough.

I'm with you Sean, the Matrix 1 & 2 were, to my mind, the most overrated and laughably trite movies in years.

To me it is depressing that people think anything containined in these films is challenging or esoteric - they are abysmal.

I laughed out loud in the cinema at the hackneyed cod-philosophy in the second film it was simply dreadful.

Does nobody read anymore?

It's as if Nietsche, Hegel, Shopenhauer, Kant et al never existed!

Ok rant over!

As to the philosophy of it all, you might find this link interesting: http://www.u.arizona.edu/~chalmers/papers/matrix.html

I must admit I enjoyed the first film - the fact that it was set in its own universe with its own implicit rules definitely helped. Hmmm... That's probably the wrong metaphor, given the premises of the film: I don't mean it in the literal sense but in the same sense that the soap opera Neighbours is set in its own universe with its own rules. You could criticise the latter for any numer of reasons but to criticise it for lack of realism would be to miss the point.

Similarly, while I share your alarm that anyone could find The Matrix challenging or esoteric, these are not qualities that are important to me - I enjoyed the film because it kept me watching and emotionally engaged from one scene to the next. The "philosophy" was highly unoriginal but it served its purpose in the film admirably, in my view.

I agree about the second Matrix film, though - the only things that stopped me walking out of the cinema were the (limited) humour and the special effects. After that I certainly have no intention of watching the thrid one...

HOW DARE YOU.......( just kidding ). l still enjoyed all 3 and will be buying them on DVD. Hiring a projector / making a curry / and inviting the lads around for Matrix and beer festival.

As for reading has anyone checked out The Magician ? absolutley brilliant and much better than lord of the rings. Much more epic ( dragons / Wizards / and gods at war with one another ).

Dark City was a much, much better film than the first Matrix, covering many of the same themes - before the Matrix. As for the overblown, over-acted, over effected, under scripted sequels....well I'm with the bloke who said at the end ' What is going on?' If I'd have been there I'd have replied 'Who cares'?

And it was meant to be hilarious right? Mr Smiths eeeevil laugh, trainman escapee from 'Pirates of the carribean', Keaneau preparing to kun fooey....I laughed till I ached.

Perhaps the directors, released from this juggernaut may finally achieve the promise shown with 'Bound'?

I'm still not sure why the bloke from the cover of the box from the 'Mastermind' game was in it.

Cool

"Bound" is a fine film. Lesbitarian Noir is a much under-exploited genre in my opinion.

It seems unbelievable to me that the same guys could have made both Bound and Matrix Revolutions (which was a whole load worse than Reloaded). Seriously guys, if you laughed and hooted at Reloaded (I know I did), then you are going to have fun with Revolutions.

Character at end of film "But it makes no sense!".
Audience in UGC Haymarket mumur as one "you said it..."

If we're displaying our sapphic tendencies - Gina Gershon is MINE, pal. Don't fancy yours much.
