I was telling my dad that I in tended my dad that I intended to have my SBLs serviced. He said, is it wroth the trouble? With age related hearing loss you probably wouldn’t be able to hear the difference anyway.
Does it work like that?

No. My Dad suffered progressive hearing loss, especially in the high frequency range, but could always immediately tell the difference whenever an upgrade was made to the system. I don't quite understand how it works but there it is!

I've said it before but clarity becomes more important the greater the hearing problem you have.

Now in my early seventies, I still have good hearing, though I have lost some high frequency sensitivity. Not everyone suffers age related hearing loss, even at my age.
It can sometimes even be an advantage, My youngest daughter no longer complains that bats make so much noise that she is kept awake.

No it doesn't.

When we are new born we hear something like 20 to 20000 Hz. That's 10 octaves. In the middle of our lives we hear something like 9,5 octaves, at old age probably 9 octaves (20 Hz to 10000 Hz). If you have a frequency analyzer you can see that most music has very little energy over 10000 Hz. The most important parts of the music is much lower down.

Btw. My dad was of the 'a cheap transistor radio is good enough, everything else is silly' brigade. Until when he got old and had some hearing problems and couldn't stand the horrible noises from the transistor radio anymore. He then occupied the HiFi system in the house for his personal use!

We stopped in a beautiful cottage with a stunning mountain and loch view in the scottish highlands near Skye last week with a beautiful view

The kids hated the cottage though as it had mice who came in out of the cold at night. It wasnt the mice they hated it was the electro-magnetic/ultrasonic mice repellers that they said continually emitted a pulsed whistle

Didnt bother me or the missus though (40s) - we couldnt hear it!!
