I think i need to try an attenuated cable between my cd5/fc2 and 202. As many will know the 202 compared with a 112 (which i previously had) is a lot louder lower down on the volume control. Also the L/R balance doesn't balance out until the knob is turned up a bit. It really means that i can't listen at low levels to cd which is a problem as i have neighbours below and to the side of me. The sound seems quite flat at low levels and improves when i crank it up a bit but by this time it is too loud and is going to get me moaned at. I am actually thinking that the 112/fc2 was better for my situation. I prefer the faster sound of the 202 but it really can't perform well at low levels from cd.

Should i try an attenuated interconnect? I know that Russ Andrews kit isn't ideal with naim but i might try the kimber pbj din-din as it can be returned minus postage charges if it doesn't work well. Any other din-din attenuated cables out there? I think Flasback may do them but is there anything else? Do chord company do any?

Alan,
I nave no problems with my 5x/Fc2x/202.
Most of my Lstening is done at low level.
You should not have to go down the A lead route.

How big is your room Munch? Not sure if this is a factor. Do you notice any channel imbalance at very low levels? I can actually hear as i turn up the volume, the image stabilizing in the centre if i turn the volume up from fully off to listening levels.

Am i right in saying you use a hi line Munch? I know this isn't attenuated but someone a while back suggested that with it being 'cleaner' that it didn't seem so loud and allowed the volume to be turned up a bit more. I assume this would mean the neighbours heard my music clear as well as loud Roll Eyes.

Alan try a Hi-Line its a no brainer as they say.
Its a must have on your cdp.
I am not using one at the moment though.
Do you have the same problem with your TT?
I have never had any sort of balance problem with the 122x/150x or now with the 202/200.
I listen on cd at night as i am now at 20 to the hour Green light on 8 even on 7 and it sounds great through the SBLs.
Have you tried bringing your speakers in towards each other more?

Have you tried adjusting the balance ? It's adjustable from the remote.

It does centre when the volume is increased enough.

Hi Alan

Couldn't agree with you more! I so loved the speed, drive and attack of the 202 but at 8 o'clock it was very loud, unsociably so, and sadly it did sound it's best at those levels! Below 8 o'clock the sound stage collapsed and the bass had less impact. I also agree about channel balance becoming vague at much lower volumes on the 202.
I had to go back to my 112x and upgrade it with a Hi-Cap! I'm currently running that into a 200 and the source is a CDX2. Not ideal pre-amp but the electronic volume control is so much easier to use, channel balance is perfect at lower volumes and stereo seperation better, strangely. The sound of the 112x is duller, of course. I so yearn for a 202 with a good volume control!

I would be very interested how you sort this as I have the money in my pocket for 202 or even 282 but just cant take the alps volume pots.

On a par. I'm using one between my Beresford DAC and my 282 (phono to DIN). The sound is definitely in the same league as my Hilined CDX/XPS.

cheers

Peter
