Hi all;
Was wondering if anybody here has an active 500 series system or has heard one. Would love to hear your thoughts. Pictures would be nice too |

Hi Flame.
I've got an active Naim system using SL2s, 552 preamp, 555 CD player & two 500 amps. The sound, as one would expect from such a setup, is superb, the Naim sound writ very large, and I've no desire to change anything, apart from adding a couple of Powerlines when they eventually turn up! If you're contemplating that level of expenditure then obviously you need to audition at length via a good dealer. I'll post some photos later, but there's rather a lot of boxes in my system, (18 little green smiley Naim logos...) much for A/V use so said photo won't be just the bare bones active 500 system. Hope this helps. And jolly good luck! |

I seem to recall that Rodborough has an active 500/DBL system on (semi?) permanent demo. He's a dealer, but he comes across as an enthusiast at heart, rather than just a salesman, so I'm sure he could offer words of wisdom if he's around.

Thanks Tonym; My current setup, aspirations and wallet are much more humble than an active 500 series kit hehehehe. I'm sure you tried a single passive 500 vs. the active 500s. What can you tell us about the difference? |

This system requires the best possible source, ideally analogue. It could be very tricky but when set up properly the sound is coming closer to the live performance than a passive alternative. |

Hi Flame,
maybe you have a misguided association with an active 500 set. It is not sheer power and endless hifi showing through an active 500/SL2. It is delicacy, intimacy and music. The first notes listening to it where even less than more! If you are not prepared to pay for it, ignore it. Best, Martin |
