It's been done many a times and I am not going ask for your view on how the 252 performs compared to the 282... BUT

As I am thinking about getting the 252 in for a homedemo (currently CDS2/250/282) I am wondering:

Has anybody out there regretted going that way?
Did anyone have the feeling that the 252 takes away a certain edge to the music as delivered by the 282, so it had tooo much control?

I listen to all sorts of music (apart from heavy-metal and techno), not only high quality recordings!

Thanks for your advice,
Ray

Hallo Röntgenstrahl,

Absolutely, positively no. I tried side-grading from a 52 to a 282 half a year ago: While the 282 did some things a good deal better than the 52 (space, air etc), it didn't match the 52's "edge" and boogie. After two weeks I returned the 282 and got a 252 (which has at least as much edge and boogie as the 52 and the air and space you get with the new Naim stuff). I was listening to a lot of flamenco guitar at the time and the 252 made fast scales easier to follow and the fast attack typical of flamenco-style guitars (as opposed to the more laid-back classical guitars) more exciting to listen to than the 282 (which is already a fabulous pre).

I'm with Thomas.

My 252 has been in Lacey Acres for 3-4 weeks now and just keeps getting better. Its the old cliche, there is just that much less between you and the music. Even at low volume, its darn awesome. To be truthful, it is a long way ahead of the 52 ( which will upsaet some people! )

It just delivers what is asked of it.

Regards

Mike

Mike, I think this may be one of the overlooked traits of the new gear: As you turn the volume dial up the sound seems to "blossom" earlier than with olive gear. Glad to hear you're pleased!

I second that emotion - the 252 is indeed a a very worthwhile upgrade over the 52.

Heard Lulu's 'To Sir with Love ' record the other day ( a bit before my time, first time around) and I have to say its absolutely gorgeous. It mad me wanna shout !! Worthy of being written by Bacharach/David .

Relight my fire still remains horribly awful, mind .

Rod

Cheers folks. Just wondering, can anyone advise who listens to things like Sonic Youth, Pixies, David Bowie, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey, Motorhead or even low quality recordings like The Nomads, Monster etc.??
Thanks again, Ray

Can't comment on the 252 but nice list of music, didn't think there were many outside Sweden that like The Nomads, great live band Cool

I can report that PJ Harvey sounds excellent through the 252, as does Nick Cave, Jah Wobble etc. Jazz and string quartets are excellent too. Laid back music is laid back, scary music is scary. This may be a studid question, but do you already have a Supercap?
