If I would have the money for the Base-shelf and 1 extended level, could I then place the FC2x + the NAIT 5i-2 on top of each ohter in the big space and the CD5x on top of the extended shelf?

Temporarily of course, until I would be able to buy another shelf for then accomodating the third piece...

Hi Luxen,

I have the same system (except I have Nait 5i instead of the 5i) and got me a base + 2 standard level shelves, early last year.
It looks great and much better imho than starting of with an extended level on a base and then ad a standard level later.
So, personally I'd rather save untill budget allows to get a base and 2 standard levels.

Here's a picture of my system early last year:

I sold my cherry/black Fraim within a few months again...lost a considerable amount of cash on it. I decided that to me the sonic improvement wasn't worth the huge price, so I went back to the good ol' spiked Corras again.)

Perhaps with higher level Naim gear the difference/improvements are more obvious.
Naim gear on a Fraim does look fabulous though, and the Fraim's build quality and finish is first class, I must confess!

regards,
Alco

Better to get Isoblue; it's probably the next best thing to Fraim. You can get four shelves for the price of the Fraim base alone. With the money you save you could change the Nait for a 122x /150x. That system on Isoblue would be much better than the Nait based setup on Fraim. It looks really good and is far easier to set up.

Possibly, but I wouldn't too scary for me - the glass shelf is on ball bearings and can move.

Dear Alco,

do you use an isolation platform between the CD5x and the CORRAS or is the CD5x directly on the CORRAS??

I do use an isolation platform between my CD5x and the Corras. It's an old Sound-Factory TT isolation platform from the early 90's.

(a hollow, light metal frame with small spikes on the corners, and a light board resting on it)

As I already had it before I got my CD5x I haven't tried my CD5x without the platform,
so I must confess I don't know how it performs directly on the Corras shelve.

Alco

Would this affect the sound very badly?

Other disadvantages?

When i first got it, it was to try under my cd5x on the top of the corras. It just made everything sound much better.
Now it is under my LP12.
The corras without the glass kills the sound of the LP12.
Hope this helps.
If i was you i would get yourself on the Fraim ladder. Stack for a while till you can get another level of Fraim.
It will make sense in the long run.
I am going Fraim in a couple of months time.

Personally I don't think Fraim is a cost effective solution at CD5x/Nait5i level. On the stacking front, I would avoid it at all costs - better to put the flatcap on the floor or stood behind the Fraim out of the way.
